Roete beplanning
Ons sit na 'n lekker ontbyt en bplan bietjie die roete vir die volgende dag saam met Gert. We woke up after a fantastic sleep. This we obviously contribute to the strenuous previous day, and not forgetting the 2
ndround of R&R’s at Fernando’s. Gert and Ruben, our hosts, support team, friends, guides and food provider in Mozambique to this point in time once again surprise us with an invitation to breakfast. We feel spoiled and I have to say this is a far cry from my visions of going to an African country and roughing it, but we do not complain with a white bread under the arm.
After breakfast we went on a tour of the surrounding area up north form Ponta Do Ouro on Quad Bikes. Not sissy ones, but those with lekker vuma. At first we hold our hosts back often with little things like getting stuck, parking in such a way that we had to pull the bikes. At one stage Gert asked if we noticed how beautiful it is, and the expression on my face was probably telling the truth. How on earth does he expect me to look around when I am sitting on a very hot, fast, begging to be driven quad bike. I did however after this take more notice
Lekker blyplek
Hier het ons twee aande by Gert en Ruben oornag. Die see is lekker warm en alles is baie gerieflik. Ons kon maklik die res van die tyd hier spandeer, maar die doelwit was bietjie anders. of the beautiful surroundings and can honestly say that the place is a gem. Ponta Malongane with its little shops, lake Sugi, and somewhere the Bulls and Sharks Pubs are things which surprised us in more than one way.
We went to the View Point, which according to Tracks 4 Africa is not accessible any longer because the roads are washed away. This was possible because we were on quads, but Tommie will be able to tell you that it can even be an exhausting challenge with a quad bike.
It was a very hot day and on the way back Gert took us to a fantastic Pub with a view many people would kill for. Unfortunately I do not remember the name, but will be able to find it again just because it made such an impression on me. We were allowed to cool off in the pool and we had 2M (Dos M) beer and prawn cakes. Everything tasted “vorentoe”. (Afrikaans for very good, fantastic, etc.) Now we could honestly say that the holiday feeling overwelmed all other possible worries of our normal daily routine.
On the way “home” we bought some prawns and some
Ther rest of the ingredients were bought at the market. Strange thing here at Ponta Do Ouro is that the grocery store burned down, and it does not seem like problem at all. We could not get butter, but for the rest of it, garlic, ginger, lemon and some other stuff, all could be bought at the market.
The first time I had a look at the market those colourful labelled bottles looked like olive oil and other exotics, only to surprise me that all of it was alcoholic drinks like RUM. Someone told me that you can buy liquor at any market because no license is required and I have to admit that we did not notice drunken people on the streets.
We closed off the day with prawns and good conversation after trying to update the blog at Upstairs Restaurant & Bar. If you ever get the chance, try their cappuccino, it was a welcome surprise.
Quote for the day: What is a beautiful country without people? What is a fantastic view without someone to share it?
