Another beautiful sunrise
Although we had more than our share of rain on this trip, we were mostly greeted with a beautiful start to the day. On day 7 we cover a distance of 230 km from Xai-Xai to Guinjata Bay.
We are not in a hurry because it is not a long distance. Tommie got up early today to take some pictures of sunrise on the beach, the pap en wors breakfast goes down well and finally we get on our way. First we drove back into Xai-Xai for petrol and our next stop was at Quissico.
We did not plan to stop here, but on the other hand, we did not plan anything, exactly for this reason. As we drove in our normal law abiding manner, within the speed limit through the town the most beautiful view of lakes and palm trees appeared on our right. The GPS indicated a camp site down there somewhere and we decided to have a look at it for a possible stay over on our way back.
It was a very scenic drive, but once again the sand got worse and worse. The beauty of the place overshadowed my, by now obsessive reaction to deep sand and because of the continuous rain the road was actually very pleasant. When we reached the “camp site” the guy
we met was very surprised and apologetic about the fact that they were planning a camp site, but did not yet actually have one. He was even more surprised that we found it on T4A. It looks like T4A is becoming prophetic now.
We carried on with the EN1 (Main road) until we turned off onto the EN101. From the EN101 we turned right onto a gravel / sand road. The first couple of meters already set the tone for the rest of the ride to Guinjata. It was muddy trenches of vehicle tracks with water everywhere, and it just started raining again. In the beginning I did not know what to expect, but it soon became clear that this was going to be good fun. The road was very driveable and with the bike skills we had it was a nice challenge. At one stage a car was stuck and the other cars could not pass. We could take a route through the veldt and in general we were faster than all the cars on the road.
When we reached Guinjata Bay, we were wet and muddy. We asked for a camp site, but luckily there were
no other people camping and the owner did not want to set up everything in the camp site just for the two of us. He offered us a chalet at a very good price instead. It even had mosquito nets.
We organised to have our bikes washed the next morning, Tommie bargained for fresh prawns, I got some beers organised and then we had a shower and prepared a meal fit for a king. (Prawns, prawns prawn.)
It was still raining and during the night it did not stop, but for now we had a dry warm bed.
Quote for the day:
By not venturing off into the unknown or what you perceive to be uncomfortable, you deprive yourself of great new adventures.
