Aerogers - Amy and Jeremy's Voyage Abroad

Amy and Jeremy's Voyage Abroad Greetings!! Jeremy and I both hope that all of you enjoy our blog and maybe feel like you're "joining us" on some of our adventures. We're about to take off on a backpacking excursion extraordinaire - this is our first major trip abroad together and we're chomping at the bit! We've concocted a plan to backpack southeast Asia this fall and then spend a year on working holiday visas in New Zealand. Our itinerary includes China (Beijing, the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, Xian and the Terracotta Warriors, Guilin and the Li River, Yangshuo, and Hong Kong), Vietnam (Ha Long Bay, Hanoi, Hoi An, and Saigon), Cambodia (Angkor Wat!)...and after that, who knows? Maybe a bit of time in Singapore or Australia as well before we head to the land of the kiwis! We also plan to head to Chiang Mai, Thailand for a month or so AFTER our year in New Zealand is up so I can study Thai massage!! Hope you enjoy our blog and please feel free to leave questions and comments...we'd love to hear from you!!

"Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain

Step aside, Great Wall. Get out of here, Yangshuo. Move down the list, Ha Long Bay. You've been demoted, Summer Palace. We have a sight that beats them all, a sight that is really too fantastic to put into words. It trumps all else we've seen in Asia, and honestly, it trumps most ancient sights I've seen anywhere else in the world. The fantastic thing is, this sight was buried in the jungle for the better part of a MILLENIUM, completely unknown to the outside world until a little French man "stumbled" upon it back in the 1800's. Wars and civil [View Full Entry]

For our final day in Vietnam, we chose to join a day tour of the Mekong River Delta - namely, a small town called "My Tho," and two islands, Phoenix and Unicorn Islands. Our trip commenced with a two-hour bus ride south of Saigon, along the way stopping at what has to be the world's loveliest "rest stop," complete with botanical gardens and tiki huts! Jeremy got what he thought was a grape Fanta, but it turned out to be licorice! Ugh!! I could smell it on the other side of the country! But I lucked out and finally found candied [View Full Entry]

Before I launch into Saigon, I want to update everyone on our itinerary, as we just booked the rest of our flights last night, since we are (sadly) nearing the end of our Asian campaign. On Sunday we will be catching a bus over the border of Cambodia and going directly to Siem Reap, the town bordering the famous Angkor Wat temples. We will spend almost a week there touring the temples before catching a flight down to Singapore for two nights. After that we're hopping a flight to Sydney, Australia, for 3 days, before our final flight to Auckland, New [View Full Entry]

Well, at long last our streak of beautiful weather came to end, as all good things must. Tuesday and Wednesday it did nothing but pour down a thick, cold, blustery rain that chilled to the bone - and the temperature dropped at least 40 degrees, if not more. Ill-prepared for that drastic of a temperature swing, we spent Tuesday doing the thing most normal people do while on vacation - we relaxed for a change! I slept 'til 11am and spent several hours working on the blog, while Jeremy was still sound asleep at 2pm, if you can imagine. At last [View Full Entry]

If I told you we found ourselves last night at a Havana-style party overflowing with mojitos, Cuban music, and Vietnamese dancing meringue in the street, would you think that the heat has finally melted my brain? Fear not, my brain is intact (barely), yet we found ourselves in just such a setting, watching in amazement as traffic stopped in both directions on a major street and hundreds of people (locals and tourists alike) gathered to watch the spectacle. I found myself (dead sober, by the way) pulled up on-stage (curse my blond hair!) by two Vietnamese guys clad in Caribbean get-up [View Full Entry]

Bizarre Foods Video Montage Asia » China » Beijing
Greetings everyone! At long last, we've found time to upload some of the videos we've been shooting over the past 5 weeks. The quality is not perfect, as we had to re-size and convert the videos for the blog, but they're not shabby either. So bear with us and travel back in time to our first few days, way back in blustery Beijing. We've affectionately named this our "Bizarre Foods" episode, reminisce of the Travel Channel Show that goes by the same name. The following is a 23-minute series of our adventures in and around Wangfujing Street Market, where creepy-crawlies and [View Full Entry]

It's hard to believe that as of today, the 14th of November, we've been gone for one whole month already! At this point we are finally starting to feel like true vagabonds...the reality that "we're not going home" anytime soon has sunk in, and it's actually a pretty cool feeling. Everyone we've met while traveling that has been to or lived in New Zealand has nothing but wonderful things to say about it, making us quite eager to actually get there! We're probably three weeks away or so...still have two more cities to hit in Vietnam before crossing into Cambodia to [View Full Entry]

Hungry's Been Working Out to Impress the Babes!

Before I begin, I must relay a message from Hungry. He was very disappointed that over 100 people read his blog and he didn't get ONE comment from anyone that they liked it or thought it was funny. If you liked Hungry's blog and would like him to write more in the future, please leave a comment in his blog (Big World, Little Hungry) for him!! It will cheer him up. After all, he's as much a part of this trip as we are! So!! Yesterday morning we checked out of our hostel in Hanoi and headed straight back for the [View Full Entry]

I would like to share this travel quote I read a few months back: "I believe that places, much like people, can be soul mates. There are destinations that have a spirit, an energy, and a pace that so perfectly mesh with your own that you feel simultaneously excited and at peace when you arrive." I have experienced this feeling twice before - once in Venice, Italy, and once in Budapest, Hungary. As of today, I can say whole-heartedly that I'm experiencing it for a third time, here in Hanoi. If we never come back, you will know where to find [View Full Entry]

Hi everyone!! Hungry here. After weeks of watching Jeremy and Amy hog the spotlight on this blog, I decided to write one of my own. I am their mascot, after all! I've been having a great time on the trip, too, when I'm not stuffed inside the bottom of Amy's purse. This morning we all slept in late and when we awoke, it was warm and sunny. First stop was lunch at Pho 24, where we all ate yummy rice noodle-and-beef soup. I even tried chopsticks for the first time! Kinda tough when your fingers are covered in fur and your [View Full Entry]
