First off, let me apologize for the long delay between blogs. I try to get an update out at least once a week, but sometimes that's easier said than done. This week we've been busy shopping for and getting moved in to our new place, which did not have internet until this morning (also a reason for the delay). But now we are moved in, getting settled, reconnected to the outside world, and ready to share it all with you! Other than a day trip to the nearby Cameron Highlands (which is coming in the next blog), I don't have a whole lot to share in the way of sightseeing. Last week consisted mainly of trips to IKEA, Tesco (like a Walmart), and a variety of shopping malls to purchase the items we'd need for our ... read more

If you're waiting for one of those blogs that contains footage of us eating chicken brains or snake guts...you'll have to keep waiting. Perhaps, on one of our "obligatory vacations" to exotic India or Indonesia, we shall recount you with some wildly entertaining tale of eating deep-fried sea slugs or barbecued parakeet. But not today. No, today my mission is to simply have you take an enjoyable and scenic walk with us through KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Center). We've been here for almost two weeks, but until yesterday we hadn't actually journeyed into the heart of the capital. You're probably thinking that it's all fun and games over here, and don't get me wrong. We're definitely having fun. But I can also assure you that it's a lot of work. Trying to learn the local culture ... read more

And what exactly IS a "candle princess," you're wondering? Apparently...it's me! Allow me to explain. Candles are made of wax, correct? And what does wax do in the heat? It melts. What do pathetic westerners (such as myself) do in the heat? We also melt. The Malaysians call people like me "puteri lilin," which literally means "wax" or "candle" princess. I'm fairly certain it's the way they make fun of us high-maintenance, I-can't-believe-how-hot-it-is types, but as long as they say it to my face, I'm okay with it. I'll even laugh along with them (as long as they make fun of me first and THEN take me inside where it's air-conditioned). Besides, it's true. I figured since I spent the first 27 years of my life in Florida that I'd have little problem adjusting to the ... read more

As Harry and Lloyd once said: "We're...THERE!" (Except, whereas they were half frozen to death after riding a bike across a snowy Colorado pass, we have the unique sensation that our skin might actually melt off our bones from the oppressive tropical heat. Minor difference!) Anyway. Yes. Approximately 24 hours after our departure from New York, we landed safe and sound (and a little bleary-eyed) in our new home of Kuala Lumpur! The 16-hour flight from New York to Taiwan was actually not too bad! We flew EVA airlines, Taiwan's national brand, and the service, food, and level of comfort was exceptionally good. I even managed to sleep on-and-off for a few hours (this never happens to me). The coolest part was that instead of flying east over the Atlantic or west over the Pacific, we ... read more

Well, here we are. Our final day in the states before we jet off to (literally) the other side of the world! After our 9-hour delay in Baltimore (for a 45-minute flight), we've been spending a lazy couple of days in the eastern part of Long Island. Great food, great weather, great friends...we couldn't ask for a better send-off! This whole month has been so memorable, from our killer going-away party in Colorado to our whirlwind cross-country trip to visit family and friends. Each and every one of you has done your part to make us feel loved, and believe us when we say that we're going to miss you more than you know! As the old saying goes, "Make new friends but keep the old, for one is silver, and the other gold." Undoubtedly we ... read more

Well, if we have to get stuck in an airport for 8 hours, at least it’s before a 45-minute flight to Long Island and not before our 16-hour flight to Asia. But I’m getting ahead of myself. We were only in Maryland for two days, but boy did we cram a lot in! The weather was still pleasantly spring-ish and perfectly sunny, prompting us to spend as much time outdoors as possible. On Monday, we gassed up my sister’s boat and off we headed from Kent Island (in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay) across the choppy waters into historic downtown Annapolis. What an underrated little city! Old brick buildings spread out from the waterfront, some dating back to colonial times (early 1700’s). The dome of the state capitol building and the impressive grounds of the ... read more

It's hard to believe that three weeks have passed since we left Colorado! As whirlwind as our road tripping and plane hopping has been, I'm glad for the opportunity to see everyone before we jet off to the opposite side of the world. Currently I am sitting in my sister's house on Kent Island, Maryland, in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. But before I go any further, let's briefly catch up on the 11 days we spent in Florida. I don't have a ton of photos to share because, frankly, we didn't take too many. Most of our time was eaten up by such fun-filled activities as visiting government offices, opening online businesses and bank accounts, getting international driving permits, and 101 other necessary evils that must be done before you attempt to move 10,000 ... read more

Greetings from "the road" - a road we've longed to journey down again! We spent the past week visiting my family in Phoenix, Arizona, but since we drove there from Colorado (about 700 miles or 1100 km) we got to see some pretty spectacular scenery along the way. It's one of those roads less traveled - even for many Americans - down through Four Corners and across the vast desert expanse of northern Arizona. We began our trip with a drive west and south through Colorado. I would love to write an enthralling description of the San Juan mountains and the majesty of Ouray, Silverton, and Durango, but alas, our drive consisted of six hours of rain and snow. It's sort of a tragedy, as this part of Colorado is considered by many to be the ... read more

A NEW ADVENTURE Well, hello hello! It's been a long time since we've been on here (over four years), so it feels good to dust off the blog and get it ready for action again. The plan was to keep the blog rolling during our tenure in Colorado; then again, the original plan was to spend only one winter season in Vail. Now - three and a half years later - we're still here...but not for much longer! How did two Floridians end up in Vail, Colorado anyway? By sheer coincidence. After spending 15 months abroad in 2009/2010, our plan was to return to Florida, save some cash, and hit the road to do it all over again. What we didn't factor in was that, during our absence, the economy had tanked and the job market ... read more

And we're home. It's kind of a strange concept, as "home" has taken on a whole new meaning in the past 14 months - 418 days, to be exact!! We left Bangkok to begin our marathon Thursday by a 5-hour red-eye to Seoul, South Korea. As the airport lies only a few miles from the North Korean border, we were understandably concerned about the political tensions in the area. All was quiet (VERY quiet) in the airport, though - you'd never know anything was wrong. We got a room at the airport's transit hotel for 6 hours of our layover - kind a of cool experience, though we slept through the whole thing. After our much-needed nap, we devoured a few burgers and waited out the last 4 hours of our layover before boarding our 10-hour ... read more
