My first intention for today was to get my washing done. I have been washing bits each day, letting them dry overnight in my room, but today I seem to get a pile of clothes that need doing. Ella gave me a wake up knock on the door at about 8:45. So as soon as I finished showering and dressing, I got straight on with my washing! Thea washing was done, and on the washing line before breakfast! As is now expected, another amazing day, another amazing breakfast, with a special mention for the very nice chocolate cake! There were a few more new faces at the table this morning, which is always nice. You simply never know whose company you are going to enjoy each day! My second intention is to fix the leather chair. ... read more

I headed to Siem Reap in Cambodia from Luang Prabang. My goal was to explore the Angkor Wat complex, which is the largest pre-industrial city in the world with an urban sprawl of nearly 3,000 square kilometres at its peak (based on LIDAR studies). Cambodia's history is deeply intertwined with India, linkages dating back to the Pallava Dynasty in Southern India. The fact that Angkor started as a Hindu Temple complex dedicated to Lord Vishnu (and Vishnu was the deity that the Pallavas worshipped) before morphing to Buddhism is a sign of this. Its complicated history of monarchies, colonial rulers, Khmer Rouge and the genocide, and subsequent political rulers, nothing has taken away the deep intrigue Angkor creates among anyone interested in history and architecture. Nearly 1/4th of Cambodia's employment is from the tourism sector and ... read more

After some days in Chitwan, we departed from Nepal. We got to look a rhino inside the wild, which become interesting. It's a nice neighborhood. It's first-rate to be returned in a tropical surroundings after per week-long stay in Annapurna. After that, we traveled to Varanasi. What a domain, wow. It is famous for having "holy water," however in our opinion, that certainly means "absolutely shit water." Locals and pilgrims take a bathtub inside the water both in education for passing away or in memory of a loved one. The corpse is also burned, and the ashes are submerged in water. Witnessing a son cremate his father become an fascinating rite. I shall always don't forget seeing the burning of my very first corpse. It is quite terrible to peer these devout Hindus drink the most ... read more

Xin Chao Pu Luong!

I feel well rested today; I have had a good nights sleep! I got up at about 8am to have a coffee and a catch up with Ella. I was going to say, before the start of the day, but that’s not quite true. It is before the start of my day, but Ella was up and about at 5:30, doing jobs! The first person I actually saw this morning was Creshanta, she is one of the cooks at Basecamp. She brought Ella and I white lotus flowers. The white lotus flowers are said to represent a state of spiritual perfection and total mental purification. Ella explained to me that it is considered an honour to be given the flowers. The only other time that she would normally give flowers is when she takes them to ... read more
