After an incredible time in Cambodia it was time to bid a fond farewell to one of the countries that has had a profound effect on us both; the warmth and hospitality of it's people (who are still reeling from events of the past) will remain in our hearts and minds forever... Well, we spent 3 weeks in Vietnam, starting off down the Mekong River from Cambodia to Chau Doc and then Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City). We travelled up the Vietnamese coast, stopping off at various places such as Nha Trang (great snorkelling), Hoi An (cheap tailors and even cheaper beers) and finally ending up in Hanoi (rather chaotic, even cheaper beers!) We have been travelling throughout Cambodia & Vietnam with our Norwegian friends Hans and Elisabet, who we met on the Thai/Cambodia border. We ... read more

We have been in Vietnam since the 30th and I am loving every minute of it. I have been laughed at everytime I ask for chopsticks, but these people will not break me. I know, no matter how tough it gets I cannot succumb to the fork. Those days are over and will be long forgotten - well, until August anyways. I will be the chopstick master. We are staying at a very nice little (only 9 rooms) hotel in District 1 which is also reffered to as "backpackers heaven". Our hotel costs us 7 USD a night and it is clean, air conditioned and comes with satallite TV and a fridge. We also get free brekkie every morning. The people here are extremely friendly. They offer to book us tours, give us advise on how ... read more

We took a one day trip out to Cao Dai Temple and the Cu Ch tunnels - and what an interesting trip! The tunnels are tiny! We were on our hands and knees crawling through with the roof of the tunnels just millimeters above our backs. Add minimal, red lighting, and soaring temperatures and you have a recipe for an attack of claustrophobia!... read more

Wow, aren't you guys lucky! 2 days and 3 entries! Yesterday I went to the spa as you know and it was all going great until I decided to do cupping. Now for those of you who don't know what cupping is here is a brief explanation: The masseusse puts oil on your back, lights a thing drenched in alcohol and puts it inside a small glass cup for a second or two. This creates a vacuum and then is literally screwed onto your back. The vacuun sucks your skin up making it look pretty vile in my opinion. All in all I had about 10 - 15 of these cups on my back. The idea is that they remove the toxins from the major irgans in your body and that the darker the circles are ... read more

Hello people! Apologis for the delay in news. I've been putting this off for a while as I still have been unable to buy a camera and I am sticking to my theory that none of you will read this unless there are pictures on it, so... I have been putting this off but I'll try to keep this one short! After being burgled, Lisa and I went to the police and sorted out police reports which was surprisingly easy and organised. I was half expecting it to be a slow and unorganised process, so I was pleasantly surprised when in fact, it was the opposite. We then travelled to Hoi An and got clothes made, returning to Ho Chi Minh loaded like camels and eventually Lisa returned home. The same day I went to work ... read more

Imagine basically throwing yourself into traffic, with every fibre of your body urging you to "go, go, go!" while you must convince yourself to slowly shuffle along, giving drivers the opportunity to swerve around you. Your worst mistake is a quick, sudden move. Welcome to Vietnam! This past week in Japan is called Golden Week, as it has 3 national holidays in a row. Many Japanese people use it as an opportunity to travel within Japan or abroad, and my friend Alexis and I also seized this opportunity. After a 1 hour flight to Korea, a lengthy layover, and a 4 hour flight, we had arrived in Ho Chi Minh City. One's first encounters with Ho Chi Minh City can only be described as sensory overload. Your ears are filled with honking, your eyes with people ... read more

Saigon is definitely a city with a pulse. I don't always like big cities, but I loved Saigon and spent more time there than expected. It was very different than Hanoi, which shuts down after 11pm. The hot and noisy streets of Saigon are buzzing even at 3am. I enjoyed meeting new people and seeing friends from Hue and Hoi An for one last party before we all went our separate ways. I did some touristy things in Saigon, like going to the War Remnants Museum and Notre Dame cathedral. I also went shopping in the markets and mailed stuff home from the beautiful main post office. Pirated movies and music are very cheap in Vietnam, and there are some great things to buy, such as coffee, food and clothes. However, the best thing about Saigon ... read more

My mother sent me an e-mail the other day... and she commented on what I am doing with my life. She said, it seems very exciting and that there never seems to be a dull moment. I have been thinking about this and have came to a conclusion. I think it's impossible for there to ever be a dull moment. If you pick any moment in time... RIGHT NOW for instance, and you really think about it, this exact moment and every consecutive and previous moments before have been experienced by each and every person in the world at the same time. That thought alone, that people all over the world are all having amazing experiences RIGHT NOW... like their first love or a broken heart or their first breath or their last breath. This is ... read more
