Saturday 17th June Paul - Me again, Laura's asleep so she's not writing todays either. If you want some Laura action then leave a comment at the end of the blog entitled "Let Laura write something Paul you git!" I forget what we did this morning but I remember staying up late and watching the football as usual. The Ozzies didn't want a cultural experience today so we went... to the water park! Can't beat a day spent splashing around the park especially at those prices. In the races down the slides I managed to finish second to Pete, HOWEVER a recent drugs test has since reversed those results! In the evening we haggled a Cambodian guidebook down to dirt cheap (seriously it's probably more expensive to buy dirt in England than it was to ... read more

Well I'm done with Australia, lovely as it was. Now for new, unfamiliar pastures where people speak an unfamiliar tongue (English, apparently) and I develop a new career as a pidgeon. I walk out of the airport and load of drivers pass me around and try to convince me that their taxi ride is the best on offer and probably rip me off (due to my feeble attempts at haggling), before dropping me off at whichever hotel is paying him most. Walking down the street, I am given unsolicited offers for rides, drugs, sex and even (god forgive me) food in exchange for my pocket money (actually, that's not too different to Sydney). I 'm in a smoggy city and crossing the road takes a lot of consideration. I love this place! I actually have my ... read more

Greetings friends, family and fans...not so much new in my life, but i do have a kick-ass apartment. so, most of this is just sweet photos from my place. Monsoon season is in full swing, so HCMC is much less the sunny tropical paradise I've grown to love; lately it resembles a warm Seattle/Norwich more than anything. Life in Ho Chi Minh continues to treat me well - I've started working a lot more, so I'm busier now than I have been for months - and I'm happier this way. Since nothing truely inspirational has occured lately, I've decided to compile a list cultural trends that I find noteworthy enough to share: 1) On Body Hair: I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that many of you have never really spent much time ... read more

The best part about the flight from Danang to Ho Chi Minh City apart from the fact that it was to save 24 hours of travel by fridge, was the onboard camera attached to the nose of the plane. Descending onto the metropolis of Saigon / Ho Chi Minh City (It is still called by both names) you could see on the screen bright white lights dotted with neon interludes stretching out onto the horizon - enough to make you feel a tad apprehensive especially after arriving straight from your very own 30km private stretch of deserted white sands. Hoa had advised us to head straight to 'Kim Cafe' and to send a couple of us out on a recce from there to find somewhere to stay, which we did, and found a fantastic place, the ... read more

More pics from HCMC, mostly from the War Remanants museum. There were alot of disturbing pictures that capturing them on my digicam won't do them justice so I opted rather remember them in my mind where it is much more alive. So just happy pictures (mostly)... read more

That's right ladies and gentlemen... that is what I am right now - a Money MACHINE!!! Forget everything I said about having a sweet, laid back life in Vietnam!!! I have a new job! I left ILA and have started teaching at a bilingual kindergarten! It's absollutely great! I don't teach many hours but my timetable is 40 hours a week (9-5), so I get paid to plan (something not included at ILA) and I'm teaching adoreable 4-5 year olds! I'm also getting paid more at this new school which, is always, welcomed! On top of that I have been tutoring my 2 Korean boys 3 nights a week and I've also taken on one 2 hour class on Saturday and Sunday morning! That's right - the girl who can't wait to be retired is working ... read more

Hour: unknown, sun has set. Location: unkown..somewhere on the Mekong so much for filling this blog with coherent tales of what i've been seeing and doing! turns out we're seeing and doing so much that sweaty and poorly lit internet cafes are not where i'm spending much of my time..best way to have it guess! anyway...my Austenesque scribing has escaped me so i'm gonna give it to you blunt...this is what i've been experiencing... ...getting caught in the rain for the first time took me by surprise...bucket of water over the head is nothing compared to the monsoon...leaves your skin tingling more than any massage.. ...learning to cross the road Vietnamese style...dont wait for the tide of motocylcles and mopeds to stop...they dont. ever. so you walk out....straight into them...and they part around you...horns sounding...nothing to ... read more

Yesterday was the last day of the tour for most of our new mates so we had a night out to celebrate - a really nice meal in the market followed by beer, rum and mojitos in the backpacker district. it wasn't very busy but our table made enough noise to fill the bar - singing along to the classic tunes and laughing at Ross' terrible jokes! Had quite a late one and suffering slightly today so just chilling out and doing some shopping in Saigon. it'll be an early night as we are getting a 6am bus to Phnom Penh tomorrow. I hope everyone is doing good - keep in touch x... read more

Sunday 4th June Paul - Left Hong Kong in a blaze of glory by stealing all the toilet paper from our room as whoever ran our hostel hadn't got up to see us out. In a bit of a random side story, I saw England's goals against Jamica. I bet if my dad was managing England, Crouch wouldn't be playing again after the way he took that penatly. And Graham Rodger is the new Grimsby manager... Back to Hong Kong and after we arrived at the airport we scouted out the cheapest place to eat as we had close to 0 HK dollars left! Managed to spend every last cent (airport food is expensive) and boarded the plane. The reason we ate before we boarded was because we were unsure as to whether we would get ... read more

Dear all, Sorry that it's been a while since I last updated... I've arrived safely in Saigon (aka Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam, and have truly learnt what the term "culture shock" means for the first time! Although this city is much cleaner than Bangkok, it is SO much busier, and so much louder than I ever could have imagined. The primary mode of transportation on the roads is moped or motorcycle, and there are THOUSANDS of them. Even the picture doesn't do the craziness justice. People also LOVE to use their horns on the roads here, so it sounds like the most impressive rush hour you can picture, all day every day. Even at ten o' clock at night you can wait 10 minutes at a street corner before being able to weave your way ... read more
