F to bargaining. * dealing with small $$ bills and numbers * our closests * perfect weather ALL YEAR round and in EVERY season! * dairy products... mainly, CHEESE! ... read more

Mr Bond The second day there was a planned trip which squeezed as much into a day as possible and as value for money it was pretty good as a whole day doing one activity sometimes is boring so our day was as follows. We were picked up early and the weather was not very nice and our first stop was a elephant trekking sanctuary this was a new experience for me and a really nice one I have to admit as it was not the same as seeing the Elephants paraded around the streets of Pattaya. You are sat in twos on the elephant and walk around a laid out path in part of the sanctuary from what we saw it looked very good and the elephants seemed to be well looked after and happy???. ... read more

Extortionately priced taxi further up the island to mountainous and underdeveloped North of Ko Phangan. Haad Mae/Chalokum. 1 night. Stayed at Utopia Resort (clearly named in the ironic sense of the word) Would like to get the name of the photographer they hired to take photos of the resort - it looked great in the travel guide!! Utopia was anything but! The resort was balanced precariously on top of the mountain, and was still being built, a major construction site. By now the storm had arrived with torrential rain and howling winds! The hut has a resident lizard and a few rather large cockroaches in the bathroom!... read more

This country is a must see!!! The Thai people are so wonderful. Very much honest, respectful, hardworking and so pleasant. It is a pleasure to be here. Our resort the Sheraton Grande Laguna is promotes a Zen like atmosphere, they served us a delicious fruit smooth on arrival. The lobby is open to the elements with curved like architecture of the roofs. The rooms are spacious and we have a super lagoon view. It is typical Sheraton luxury. We went into Phuket town one day and visited a department store. They are really well staffed and the staff are very helpful and trying to please. I also went to some sidewalk vendors whom are really pleasant and do not pressure you. The ocean is nice and clean, showing no devastation from the Tsunami. The lagoon at ... read more

Russell - So finally we have arrived in Phuket to lie on a beach and sunbathe. First thing - get to the beach. We are staying Phuket Town which is not on the coast and need to get a bus to the beach, so to the bus station we head. After asking a number of people where to find the bus to Kata beach someone finally points to a big blue bus with "Phuket-Kata-Karon" written down the side. Ah well, how were we to know? We get on the bus and the driver doesn't seem that bothered about taking our money. "We go to the market first" OK, whatever and the bus heads off. When we get to the market the engine goes off. "We stay here for 20 mins or so" and the driver goes ... read more

After Monday night we were feeling pretty bad and the 4 Kings game had been inflicted on some lads we met from Somerset (Banger and Steve) Rodders had to go to the airport on Tuesday afternoon and we were all contemplating what to do next. We joked lets go on a little holiday so before I knew it Wingnut, Malky and myself had decided to go to the airport with Rodders and go to Krabi for a few days. After getting a standby flight to Krabi we caught a Taxi to Ao Nang where we found a nice hotel and booked in for a night. The beach here was so much better than anything that is in Pattaya or Jomtien and it was nice to be able to go for a swim and sit on a ... read more

7 Nights On the 15th November we caught a 16 hour bus ride to Krabi from Bangkok. Krabi is on the west coast of Thailand. We headed to Ao-Nang, the most western beach in the Krabi area. On arrival you can immediately see the rebuilding from the Tsunami. Ao-Nang is a nice little town and we had a fun wholesome time on our one night there. It was a little touristy but a good place to unwind after 16 hours on the road. We advanced quickly into relaxation mode when we took our $3 boat ride to Ton Sai, a bay that is probably the most underdeveloped tourist area (electricity is only available at night and is by generator) in this region. As you pass around the head from Ao-Nang you are greeted with the most ... read more

Dear All What can I say, another day, another island. I arrived in Ko Phi Phi this morning with 5 other girls, a mixture of Swedish, Belgian and Dutch. They have been doing voluntary work in Hat Yai teaching English to Muslim children - I thought about doing it myself for about 5 minutes until they informed me they had to sleep in a wooden hut, on the floor for two weeks amongst cockroaches and rats (I think I will pass) Phuket wasn't for me, full of old Westerners with their young Thai 'girlfriends' so I hopped on a ferry to Ko Lanta. I checked my Lonely Planet & booked into a bungalow & met up with a Swedish girl (the first person I've met on their own - its not just me!!!!). I stayed their ... read more

Well, this is our last night, for present on Phuket; tomorrow we travel to Krabi for a week - maybe more if we like it. This weeks highlights have been a 3 or 4 very relaxing dayus either on Karon Beach or Kata Beach which is just round the bay. Several excellent meals at various restaurants and a great trip today to 'James Bond' Island where parts of 'The Man With The Golden Gun' were filmed. And that's true because they showed the DVD on the bus and we recognised where we had just taken this photograph. The whole trip was excellent - we went to a monkey sanctuary which also houses an old cave temple. You will have to wait to see photographs as we don't have Linda's camera's USB link with us at the ... read more

Attempted to get early morning speed or cattermarran to Koh Phangnan - Thai time took over. 2 hours later and much confusion suffered, crammed onto a catterman bound for the other islands. Weather a little Windy and rainy, sat upstairs for the view, which was our first mistake!!. Waves crashed over the top of the boat and drenched whole group constantly for 1.5 hours, people being sick over edge of boat, quite a few people genuinely quite frightened. Disembarked - grateful to be alive but completely drenched. Decided to stay at Long Bay Resort, Haad Yao. 3 nights. Very pleasent gardens, beach front pool, jacuzzi, restaurant. Golf buggied around the gardens. Dogs a whole lot more menacing that on Koh Tao! Hired a moped to tour the island (east and west coach and inland). Waterfalls/local fishing ... read more
