Dear All, I know its only been a couple of days since my last update but after today I have to write some of it down as this has been one of my best (and worst) days & its my last full day in Cambodia. It started whilst eating breakfast watching the world go by. I now know what 'people watching' really means, I could sit all day here and just watch. There is everything imaginable on the roads. One bike had 6 large sacks on the back (about the size of cement bags) and on top was his passenger - about 6ft up! Where there is a will, there is a way. There are many monks in their orange robes just walking along the river. There are women walking along carrying huge trays of food ... read more

Hello All I have finally given up the beaches and headed back to the mainland. I spent a couple of days on Ao Nang but was ill so I can't really comment about what it was like! I then went onto Kanachaburi - The River Kwai. This was a totally amazing place, I went on a guided tour to the Death Valley it was a very emotional place as over 100,000 men died working on the railway during the 2nd World War. I am glad I went but 'enjoyable' isn't quite the word to use. The group I was with were great fun, in the afternoon we were taken to the hot springs. This was in the middle of nowhere & we all jumped in a freezing cold river then straight into the hot springs - ... read more

Dear All What can I say, another day, another island. I arrived in Ko Phi Phi this morning with 5 other girls, a mixture of Swedish, Belgian and Dutch. They have been doing voluntary work in Hat Yai teaching English to Muslim children - I thought about doing it myself for about 5 minutes until they informed me they had to sleep in a wooden hut, on the floor for two weeks amongst cockroaches and rats (I think I will pass) Phuket wasn't for me, full of old Westerners with their young Thai 'girlfriends' so I hopped on a ferry to Ko Lanta. I checked my Lonely Planet & booked into a bungalow & met up with a Swedish girl (the first person I've met on their own - its not just me!!!!). I stayed their ... read more

Dear All So mum's 3 week holiday is now over and she's flown back to England. We had a whale of a time and now she's deserted me to travel solo for the next year. OH MY GOD! I will admit I am finding it quite daunting but off to Phuket (by air, can't quite get my head round 14 hours on a train yet when it only takes an hour by air) Whoops - budget's broken already. I haven't told you about our day in Chiang Mai last week - We had a day at an elephant sanctuary and it will definately take some beating - we watched the elephants have a bath in the river, they entertained us by showing their skills (which included logging, basketball, playing musical instruments - well, banging a tamborine! ... read more

Hi everyone, It was a long day last Sunday travelling from Ko Samui to Chiang Mai (unforunately we didn't have a direct flight so a 5 hour wait in BKK airport). We got to the River View Lodge, it's a really eccentric old guesthouse, full of nik naks (well Junk really, mum would have a field day on a car boot). The first 2 days were cloudy and raining but it didn't stop us! We looked around Warorot market & the night bazaar, the bartering for goods is great fun & the prices are unbelievable. I still can't believe how much mum can shop. Apparently the monsoon season is over in Chiang Mai but I don't agree, as our guesthouse is right next to the river & the rain hasn't relented at all, the toilet was ... read more

Hello all, Spent a day in Bangkok visiting the Wats and riding on tuk-tuks. We also visited Khao San road which is basically a long road full of tourists drinking beer and shopping. We had a Thai meal & headed home as still jet-lagged. On Sunday flew to Ko samui, staying in Bo Phut in a wonderful resort so we're spending the week just chilling out and having thai massage! Yesterday it was raining so we toured round the island and had a ride on the elephants at the sanctuary, the baby ones were gorgeous. Next trip is to Northern Thailand, Chaing Mai so will keep you updated on our adventure. we are cheating by flying up there but I've persuaded mum to get the sleeper train back to the river kwai then onto bkk. Whilst ... read more
