Getting out of Koh Lanta was as easy as pie. A simple minibus to the pier and a one way ticket on the ferry ($300b) for the two hour journey to Koh Phi Phi smack in the middle of the Andaman Sea. With great beauty comes great crowds and this place was an eleven. Some of the most striking beaches I've been privileged to see call this place home, even with the hordes of tourists that were basking upon them. No wonder it was chosen to be home to the set of THE independent traveler's' movie "The Beach". I had now found myself firmly planted in the eye of the tourist storm that is Thailand. Koh Phi Phi is truly a spectacular place. The soft sheltered bays with long stretches of powder white sands can even ... read more

We left Phuket to head to the Phi Phi Islands. The shuttle was awful. The driver was over taking on single lane roads, facing on coming traffic, it was terrifying. I shit my britches a few times. The road wasn't the only place with skid marks. The boat journey was far more peaceful. A few hours to relax and unwind with the gadgets. The pier at the Phi Phi Islands resembled a refugee camp. No organization, touts and bags everywhere. We made it to out hotel which was away from the main area. It was a standard large room with air conditioning. The shower was terrible, the place was dirty. It is sold as a double room but had two beds pushed together. It was the worse two nights sleep of my life. There is a ... read more

I am currently writing this post aboard the dingiest boat I've ever been on. We are en route to Ko Lanta and we couldn't be happier! That being said, our last day in Phi Phi has been my favourite day of the trip so far! We got a boat trip along with 15 other people around the islands. We saw Monkey Beach, Viking Cave, Maya Bay, Shark Point, Bamboo Island and a little lagoon. We spent the day snorkelling, exploring, sunbathing and seeing wild monkeys up close. A couple of highlights of the day: We were on Monkey Island, and here you get off the boat and can actually touch/feed the monkeys, however you do this at your own risk, they are after all wild! A guy on our boat was semi antagonising the monkeys, trying ... read more

Phi Phi, should be renamed Poo Poo coz that's what the island smells like! We arrive after a two hour ferry ride to piles of people fumbling around trying to find their hotel porters, or just trying to find hotels in general, lots of chaos! Our bags are shuttled to our hotel, which so far may be the worst one we've stayed in. The room is big, but that's the only good thing. Our shower room smells like sewage, oh and over here you can't flush toilet paper so we also have a bin without a lid to put soiled toilet paper in... nice! But as with the last one it's only two nights so not the end of the world! Phi Phi is a party Island, selling buckets filled with ice, a bottle of alcohol ... read more

Hit and Run, six countries, one month, two girls! We have a month off school for winter break. A whole month to explore Asia. After looking at a lot of different routes and working out the best one financially, Val and I decided to go to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, The Philippines, Taiwan and Japan. Unfortunately the Irish had friends from home coming for part of the holiday so couldn't join us so they spent two weeks island hoping in Thailand. Our first stop was Krabi. We were only there a night before getting a boat to Ko Phi Phi where we were staying for five nights. Once we were checked in to our hotel on Phi Phi island we went to the beach. It was the 16th of January and we were in the sea, it ... read more

Have you ever heard SO much hype about a particular place that by the time you actually get there, it's kind of a let-down? Yeah, I've had my share of that, too. (I may have to join the witness protection program for admitting these, but here we go). Truthfully, that was my experience with New York City, which I visited for the first time when I was 19 (right after 9/11). It's not that it's NOT a great city - it is. But you hear SO MUCH about how it's the greatest city on earth and the stuff dreams are made of and blah blah blah...and, well, for me it just didn't live up to all that hype. Well, if you're a travel junkie, or a sun worshiper, or a beach lover, you've definitely heard of ... read more

With our newly formed Thailand family we decided to go a bit more up market and look for some fancy private rooms a bit further out from the main beach on Phi Phi. We decided on Maney's Resort which was about a 7/10 minute walk from the pier. There are no vehicles at all on the island, not one bicycle or moped in sight, just shit loads of human traffic. Thankfully someone from the resort came to meet us with a "wheelbarrow" for our bags. We probably should have done a bit more research as we were in for a nasty surprise when we arrived at the hostel. The wooden bungalows were beautifully situated in the midst of an uphill jungle scenery, staggered about 20m uphill. Of course, our bungalow was the very top one, and ... read more

Saturday 26th December 2015 Today we are heading to the Island of Ko Phi Phi. This would require us to travel by speed boat for 2 hours from the harbour at Krabi. After being picked up by minibus at 8:15am we were on the boat and off by 9am. We spent the 2 hour journey with Gemma sleeping and me catching up on these blogs. We arrived at the island with approx 200 other people from our boat and perhaps at least 1000 other people arriving on other boats at the busy pier. We somehow managed to collect our bags from the crowded baggage store area on the boat and walked the short 5 minutes to our hotel, "The White", walking through some busy, small winding streets. Along the way we passed lots of restaurants, bars, ... read more

Hi After two tranquil weeks on the magical island of Koh Lanta I headed on to phi phi islands. Lanta really lived up to all my expectations and I will definitely return. Fantastic quiet beaches, a slow pace of life combined with great little restaurants on the beach, the possibility to watch the sunset pretty much every night well it hardly gets any better then this. What a different feeling I faced when I arrived on Ko phi phi don, a bussing pier with people everywhere especially back packers who comes out here to dive and enjoy the night life. I was only here for two days so I thought I better make the most of it and booked myself on to a seven hour speed boat trip. I got to see all the sights and ... read more

After my marathon of sleep I woke up with sore legs from climbing the many steps up to the tiger temple on Saturday. So, popping out to buy a tub of tiger balm before starting my day was a must. Booking myself on the 10.30 boat to KO phi phi I had a bit of time for some breakfast first. Being driven 10 minutes to the port and after a 2hr boat ride I had arrived. Ko phi phi is a large island - but most of it being completely inaccessible with huge limestone cliffs and dense forest. The island would be 2 islands if it not for the narrow isthmus that connects the 2 parts. This part is crammed with shops, restaurants, hotels etc and it quite small - easily walk around it in an ... read more
