Please review my pictures and the captions. I had many personal thoughts during my time on Koh Phi Phi. They are written in a journal, but not published on this site. The experience is one that I will never forget. I sought happiness on this trip and found it in a variety of ways. From working with strangers who came to this island from all around the world for the same reason I had, to helping a local family enjoy their life in a way that it might have been before they lost everything. Perhaps I will publish these experiences in the future, but for now they will remain personal and leave you with a quote. "Happiness that is genuinely satisfying is accompanied by the fullest exercise of our faculties and the fullest realization of the ... read more

From Penang in it was a ferry to the Northern Malaysian mainland then onto a mini bus up to and through the Malay / Thai border which was all very painless due to the driver stopping at the last Malay service area, where, for the princely sum of 15p I got the Thai entry visa professionally (and more importantly, correctly) typed up. I still don’t like it when you hand over your passport and money and the gadgee disappears for half an hour but I figured that if he was trying to scam me he would have asked for more money. Luckily I was right. So then I arrived in Thailand which was quite a culture shock, especially as I had got to grips with the basics of the Malay language (although it did help being ... read more

Well well well, another day another adventure. Tash and I are just about to leave Phi Phi Island, its been like a dream. After spending two nights on trains we ended up in Phuket (Southern Thailand). The trains weren't tooo bad, the first one was a sleeper train, we had beds and everything. The second one, however, didn't have any sleepers left (we didn't book early enough), so we ended up on seats for a 13 hour train trip. Ugh. Oh yeh, while we were in Bangkok, on our way down here, I had my hair plaited. Blonde and Purple, almost down to my waist. Very different, have got quite a few comments. Anyway... Phuket was different, we spent the time on Karon Beach, there was no evidence of the Tsunami there. People were really nice, ... read more

First off - sorry to the readers. This journal entry has taken me a long time to start. I also realize that many ofthe pictures will not really mesh with the words. The pictures will present a mostly rosy world, while the words will reflect how I actually felt. This entry is growing quite large. I'd suggest taking it in small chunks. Phuket with the gals After an "easy" journey, I arrived in Phuket from Koh Phi Phi. In this case, "easy" menas an 8 hour over-night ferry ride, followed by a 3 hour wait at some random travel agency, followed by a 6 hour bus ride that must have stopped at every house on the way. Sometimes we stopped to pick up / drop off passengers. Sometimes we stopped for...? Maybe there were too many ... read more

The bus stopped in the middle of nowhere at some awful, antisocial time of the morning and those of us going to Phuket had to get onto a mini-bus, which was a lot more comfortable than the big bus. I sat with my arm out of the window, which was well stupid as it was burnt to a crisp when we eventually arrived. On our last legs, we started the final part of our journey, a two hour boat trip to Phi Phi (also often spelt Pee Pee) island. We had travelled by every conceivable form of transport in the last three days - train, car, plane, taxi, tuk tuk, bus, mini bus and boat - and finally we could relax. Koh Phi Phi is actually two islands - Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Le. ... read more
