Leslie has been back for just over a week at school that it is already time for a long week-end of public holidays...and therefore we are back on the road. I know, this is kind of our own family logic, but hey, we live the way we can... This time we are on for a very nice discovery, heading for one if not the Southern island of Thailand, to Koh Lipe. We are a mere 30km maximum from the Malaysian border, with Langkawi just in our sight. But here it is, Koh Lipe is a jewel that you earn, at least for now. How you are going to ask me? Well, it's not really you next door to Bangkok. All in, the shortest time we could have made it door to door is a short 9 ... read more

I can't believe I am writing our last blog in Thailand. What an adventure! We have seen and done so much that it's almost a bit scrambled now.....so many memories to cherish from this one country. Before I get too sentimental I better carry on with telling you what we've been up too. We were really sad to leave Ko Lanta. It was a beautiful island, so quiet but we don't think it'll be long before it's just as busy as Phi Phi. The crossing to Ao Nang was ok, we hadn't booked anywhere in mind but we had an idea of where we wanted to stay so the bus dropped us off on the main street in the town. We couldn't find this hotel at all. I think the Lonely Planet really messed up on ... read more

After a slow and relaxing day, we decided it was time for more. Lanta (as the locals call it, koh means island so we shant be redundant here) was done with and we went looking for more spicy adventures. Our last meal at Lanta warrants at least a paragraph: we eventually found a place run by the two smartest women on the island. Two native Lanta sisters who understood the art of providing choices to their customers and catering to the tourists' palette without affecting the authenticity of the food. Enter fusion Thai food in a contemporary concrete and wood built hut, decorated the island way, with hammoks and bean bags. This is what the 7+ year European expats called home for what it appears: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Hey, if it ain't broken... don't fix ... read more

The last time we were in Thailand we met a couple on Koh Samet who had been to Koh Lipe and reckoned that it was the best Thai Island that they’d ever been to, so on this recommendation we decided to give it a go. Koh Lipe (pronounced Leepay),is a tiny speck in the Andaman sea, it lies 70KM off the South West of Thailand and has no airport, the only way to get in or out is via ferry. The Ferry from the Thai mainland takes 2 hours and Langkawi in Malaysia can also be reached by ferry in just over an hour. The islands inhabitants are the Chao Lei people, a band of Malaysian Sea Gypsies who have settled on Lipe and make their living mostly by fishing and transporting the tourists around the ... read more

I managed to broke my toe while walking on the beach, looking at the amount of yachts that appeared on Chinese New Year... There are almost invisible white stones in the white sand everywhere on the beach and I managed to broke my toe :) ouch. I was sharing my bungalow in Ko Lipe with a lovely friend from Norway for a week after my friend Lucy went back to London. I'm back to Phi Phi island now where I paid for a month for my new room with fast internet - I managed to get an amazing deal - paying only 8000 B per month on an island where they normally want over 1000 B a night... I don't even feel like leaving my room now - I've got a huge bed, internet, fan :) ... read more

This blog is all about how much we love Ko Lipe! Once I finally got over my Thai Tummy sickness and full body heat rash (yay, I know - super sexy!) we really got to enjoy Ko Lipe! The people on this island (locals and travelers) were the nicest we have come across so far. One lady who owned a funky natural body products and jewelry shop single-handedly cured me of my heat rash with her amazing lemongrass salt scrub and pure coconut oil. Up until I had met her I was using various medicated creams from the pharmacy that really weren't doing much good. After taking one look at my skin she began to slather me in delicious scrubs and oils right in her shop. Every day that we walked by her shop we would ... read more

It has been a while since my last post so there is a lot to catch up on. Firstly, I got traveler’s sickness on day 3 on Ko Lanta. It hit hard after dinner and I spent that night being the sickest I have been in a very long time. While I knew that getting sick while traveling would most likely happen and was prepared to make many visits to the bathroom I wasn’t expecting days of fever, vomiting, sweats and most horrific gut cramping I haven’t felt since my appendix almost burst! Any way, 3 days in bed in our air-conditioned room, a bland diet and poo meds and I was finally fit enough to make the trek to Ko Lipe. It was a good thing Nurse Geoffrey insisted we stay on Ko Lanta until ... read more
