Today I woke up so sad that we had to leave the beach already! We had another wonderful breakfast and this time I got eggs benedict and a chocolate croissant that was delicious. After breakfast we had some time to relax on the beach before we had to pack up our stuff and leave the resort. We all enjoyed the last looks at the ocean water and took some pictures in our The Chill hats and headed into the van. We were all not excited to make the long journey back to Chiang Mai, but we had fun reflecting on the excitement and beauty of the beach and resort we got to experience. We drove to the ferry and waved goodbye to Koh Chang. I was getting a little car sick when driving down the winding ... read more

Today we left Koh Chang and traveled back to BCNC, aka our temporary home. For breakfast this morning I had an Iced cocoa, 2 mini cinnamon rolls and a side of bacon. I wasn’t feeling all too hungry this morning, so I didn’t eat too much. After breakfast I quickly face timed Karalyn, so she could see the beach. We chatted for a bit, and then I got all my stuff ready to leave. We hit the road by 9am and didn’t stop for lunch until 1pm. Lunch included some fish, rice, and fried egg. It wasn’t my favorite meal in the world. We had a little bit of extra time before having to get back on the road, so we walked across the street to an indoor market. I bought Karalyn some elephant pants i ... read more

Today was a fun filled day with lots of time in the sunshine in Koh Chang! It is such a blessing to get to wake up in comfortable hotel bed and walk down to the beach to spend some time with God. His beauty is indescribable! We had breakfast at the resort and I got a breakfast sandwich and a chocolate crepe for dessert. The food was unlimited and so delicious! After breakfast, we all got on a boat and stopped at a few different islands to snorkel and swim. The water was so blue and so clear it was amazing! I have never seen water like it. I enjoyed snorkeling and getting to see all the life living under the water. We saw beautiful coral which I scratched my hands on a few times, we ... read more

Today we woke up at 0515 to leave for the beach!! We were all very tired but excited for the beach weather and the ocean!! We caught our flight around 0810 and thankfully it was only an hour flight! We were all expected that we would be able to catch a quick ferry over to Koh Chang and be there by lunch time but this was not the case! We were informed that we would need to take a 2 ½ hour bus ride to get to the ferry and then another hour on the ferry before Koh Chang. The 2 ½ hour bus ride ended up being around 4 as we made stops at two gas stations and a noodle restaurant on the way to the ferry. We got to the ferry around 3pm and ... read more

January 19th -21s t : Koh Chang Weekend Friday we left at 7am for the airport to fly to Pattaya and begin our big traveling day to Koh Chang Island. In hindsight, we were unprepared for the amount of traveling ahead and didn’t expect the day to include so much traveling! Arriving at the airport, we unloaded our luggage and I soon realized we were quite late according to the time on our tickets. The ticket said we should be getting ready to board at 7:30am yet we were still waiting to check our bags close to then. Not only did a few of us Messiah people looked nervous, including Ajan Debbie and Greg, so did a few of the BCNC staff. We tried and move as quickly as possible and arrived at the gate on ... read more

January 15 Well today I got to experience being an actual patient in one of the private hospitals here in Chiang Mai. I haven't eaten in about 5 days and my body keeps spitting things out (I honestly don't know how there's stuff in there, but there is), so they thought it would be best for me to go to the doctor. I was really nervous to go because I hate the doctor even in America. Imagine me in a whole different country. They don't have doctor's offices here, just hospitals, so you have you have to go to the hospital and wait until the doctor is able to see you. Some people wait all day! I didn't have to wait that long because we went to a private hospital, which meant you have to have ... read more

Today we woke up not really knowing the plan for the day. We went down for breakfast and were told we were going to the temple to do the elderly activity and they were not sure what resources they would have or what their ability would be. Victoria and I decided we would have to wing the activity and come up with different exercises that would work with the population that we had when we got there. I was a little bit anxious about planning this activity on the spot, but I think it was a good experience for me to be culturally stretched and to have to think on my feet. It reminded me of how things go in nursing, you try to plan your shift as much as you can but things change and ... read more

Today I got up extra early to talk to my best friend, Karalyn on the phone. It was really nice to spend some time catching up with her since she’s gone through a few life transitions since I left for Thailand. I haven’t been able to support her as much as i would have been able to in the States, which has been rough for both of us. At the beginning of the trip I was feeling guilty because I knew she needed me and I wasn’t able to physically be there or pick up my phone and call her at the drop of a hat like normal. Although it’s still tough, I know that God has her so I don’t need to worry or feel guilty. Needless to say I’m really exited to see her ... read more

Today was our last day of clinical in the community and we attended an elderly group at a local temple for their weekly Thursday meetings in the morning. We arrived at 9 am and participated in their morning ceremony, which included raising the Thai flag with their anthem, praying with Buddha and worship, sharing goodness or good thought, and a morning “walk” swinging our arms and marching around the temple. This was fun yet confusing, the BCNC professors weren’t attentive to the fact that we couldn’t understand and had no idea what was going on! The PT student from Chiang Mai University and she helped us when she was available. When I first arrive, they asked for a volunteer to help with taking blood pressures and pulses. I was hesitant but volunteered and I was so ... read more
