It's been quite boring in the office today... I decided to write and do research a little bit about my next trip to Nepal where I'm gonna do my first trekking adventure to the himalayas region... I'm gonna be in kathmandu on the April 25th. Plan to do the circuit by myself, SOLO... It sound a little bit too ambitious right? Well... I dunno... may be, I'll give it a try anyway and see how it goes. My trip itenerary would be, 23-25 April, Bali-Jakarta-Bangkok 25 April, Bangkok-Kathmandu April 25 - May23, haven't decided yet which way to go to cover Annapurna circuit + Tilicho Lake and also ... read more

If you mention Nepal, most people immediately think of Mount Everest. The world’s highest mountain, and a mountain which has claimed many lives. Hundreds of people head to Nepal each year to climb it’s dangerous summit. But Everest is not going to be in Nepal forever. Scientists take precise GPS readings each year, and the mountain is moving North, slowly but surely, at a rate of 6cm per year. It already straddles the borders of Tibet and Nepal, but by the end of the next Millenium it may have left Nepal entirely. How ridiculous. A mountain on the move. Why is it moving? In search of better lifestyle? To see more of the world? Let’s hope Mount Snowdon doesn’t get ideas and starts moving towards London. It’s hard enough to park a car in London, never ... read more

The Annapurna Circuit - dubbed the "apple pie trail" is the most popular trekking track in Nepal. It takes 2-3 weeks to complete and reaches a maximum height of 5416m at the top of the Throng La Pass, which is now covered in a good coating of fresh snow. We had a fantastic time - despite Matt being as sick as a dog for almost the entire trip and throwing up more than 16 times! It wasn't very physically demanding in comparason to the trek in the Everest area, but the landscape was much more diverse and culturally it was far more interesting. All of the villages we passed through were permanent settlements for locals unlike the summer ones set up entirely for tourists in the Everest area. Every day we'd pass school kids running home ... read more

Novel Travelling Follow the journey of books around the world and leave your own location and thoughts. For more information and to see the index of other books on this blog go to: Bob Mehew: December 14, 2007 Where obtained: Beijing, China Where read: Nepal, mainly on the Annapurna Base Camp trek Thoughts: An interesting and harrowing look at a year as an American intern in a Jewish hospital. The characters crack through overwork, their conditions, their bosses and their constant confrontation with death. The bleakness somehow complimented many late cold cold nights nights on the trek since I could not sleep as the altitude of the trek increased. Freezing hands turned the pages as the early hours encroached - this book kept me entertained until I could finally sleep through exhaustion. It contrasted the fantastic ... read more

First of all: I realize it took way too long for this blog to appear, but the internet connections are extremely low here (only phone-modems), and writing takes quite some time as well... so there, no apologies! During the days before the trekking, we visited some of the sights in and around Kathmandu. Durbar square was nice, but it was bigly overruled by Bhaktapur, a medieval town (1100 A.D.), with a much more authentic feel. We got back Wednesday evening (over a week ago, that is) from the trekking. We'd decided to take an easy route on the Annapurna range, as neither of us has been doing a lot of exercise recently, so we were not sure how much our legs could handle (I was especially worried about my right knee) and on which altitude our ... read more

Hiking to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) and up to Poon Hill (further story and photos to follow...) I first hiked to ABC in 1989 so was curious and somewhat fearful to see what changes had happened over the years. This year I met an older Swiss couple (in their late 70s) in Lhasa and he had been back in that area over 15 times...he told me to go back because it was even "better now...you can see the mountain sunset and sunrise in the warmth and comfort of a hut...no more shivering and cold agony", he said.... read more

High Altitude Cricket: The Next Frontier The world of cricket has been stagnant too long. No major advancements have been made in the game in recent years, excepting of course any advancements that have been made, and something needed to be done about it. Enter Team High Altitude Cricket, or HAC for short. The mission was simple: to play cricket at any altitude higher than Australia. It turns out that this is not a particularly difficult task thanks to Australia's highest mountain, Mt. Kosciuszko, being only 2228m tall and because Nepal is, on average, really stupidly high. The team gathered in Kathmandu in preparation for the series and then bravely stepped on to the Annapurna Circuit in search of the ultimate game of cricket at 5416m above sea level. My Dad, my brother, Ben (a work ... read more

Day 11 (11.09.07) - Muktinath (3800m) - It's A Long Way To The Top If You Want To Rock-N-Roll...5416m To Be Exact Well today was the big day. I got out of bed sometime before 5am and began prepping for the day. I specifically didn't say that I "woke up" because that would imply that I actually slept. This altitude really is not conducive to me sleeping. First of all - I was wearing long johns, pants, socks, my hat, 3 shirts, and my down jacket inside of my sleeping bag liner inside of my sleeping bag and under a blanket...so I was feeling a tad claustrophobic. And at 4800m the previously described problems with the altitude only got worse. In my not-really-awake-but-not-really-asleep state I would have something akin to a dream...but not quite a dream. ... read more

Hola hola, Nastava posledni faze naseho vystupu do sedla. Dnes mame pred sebou odpocinkovou trasu - pouhych 5 kilometru z Letdaru do Thorung Phedi, coz je posledni misto pred vystupem do Thorung-La.
