We arrived yesterday after a very rough 6hr journey- it reminded me of being back in Jamaica- soo many twists and turns! But as soon as we hit the mountains it felt as if we had moved into a different country. It was soo beautiful! and each time I thought, right this is it- were at the top we just seemed to keep on climbing! There is such a divers community up her- Hindu, Buddist, Taoist, Roman Catholic and Muslim, it is pretty much the same all around Malaysia I am told- everyone lives so well together. We are staying at the Cameronian Inn ( in the LP), we did check out Fathers Place ( which also has LP reccomendation) but were very disappointed, the rooms we basic and not very clean. We arrived in Cameron Highlands yesterday afternoon after another long bus journey. I was really tired after getting up at 6am but really tried to stop myself from falling asleep as the views on the way up the mountains were beautiful. We arrived at Thana Rata in the afternoon and there were a few minibuses there for hotels that took you there for free. We'd been informed that Fathers Guesthouse was good so got into their minibus but when we got there it wasn't very nice at all - really really basic and on top of a hill all by itself so would have been a trek to get to town (and after the trek we had to do everyday from Had Rin when we stayed in that bungalow we thought maybe not!) So we ended ... read more

Hello again I apologise to those of you logging in regularly and not seeing any updates but it has been pretty hectic for us so far and we really have not had a chance to hit an internet cafe until now. We are in Surat Thani in Thailand, it's 7.30pm and we have tickets on the 11pm overnight ferry out to Koh Tao island where we be staying for 5-6 days. The plan is for me to do some diving (PADI Open Water course) and Stef will just laze around and do nothing ;-) We are in an Internet cafe now that is not wanting to play ball with loading pics so I hope this works. Below should be some great pics we have taken. The first is of a little girl at the Orangi Asli ... read more

Caution... entry not for children or those of weak stomach! Yesterday was probably the most fun day i have had thus far! I started the day out going on a guided tour of the northern part of Cameron. It was myself, two karens from Germany, Amanda from Australia and another young chap who didn't speak much. The girls were put in the back and the guys were in front and we started our trip in our "vip" land rover special edition with our humorous tour guide, Kumai. We visited the infamous BOH tea plantation and learned of the rich history of it's modest beginnings to how it became this huge empire that dominates all of Malaysia's tea industry. Us girls got to know each other and had some great laughs.. the ones that hurt your belly ... read more

All the stories I have read about the crazy bus drivers and the windy and narrow roads going 50mph are true! Fortunately i have made it to my destination (Cameron Highlands) safely, but i am still shaken by the experience! The two lane road was about the width of a US highway lane. There were no guardrails on the windy roads up the mountain and I was relieved to be on the left side of the road closest to the mountainside. I also don't think Malaysian buses are equipped with break pedals and I doubt these drivers qualify for any sort of health/life insurance as bus driving is a dangerous occupation! There were at least two times where i think we were turning a bend on two wheels. Backpacks were sliding to the opposite side of ... read more

18th Feb Cornflakes for breakfast mmm, not as good as home though, and a yummy banana shake. Just went into town (5mins walk) to get supplies like toilet paper as i have discovered that some of the hostels dont provide it! The girls booked themselves in for the "full day discovery tour" where you could break it up over an afternoon and then the next morning. We had a piece of cake and a cup of tea in the nice warm sun and the cool fresh air before they left for their afternoon tour. I continued to cook in the sun and catch up on journal writing which is begining to feel more like a chore. I picked a movie for the arvo - Cold Mountain, which i didnt really rate. I then watched some of ... read more

Hey you all, ok, have some time to write an update. After 2 days walking around in Kuala Lumpur I decided to go to Pankor Island, a small island on the west coast. Had a fab time there, had a room with hot shower and a balcony! Met some dutch people, to be quit short what I did: - party on the beach with Dirty Dancing music (the music from the movie he...), beers and a nightswim afterwards - renting a motorbike and explore the island - rented a bike and had to go back after 30 min as the first gear didn't work.... - sit in the sun on the beach - met a local fisher and we all (5) went the next day with his boat to go and C them fishing, (first real ... read more

Since our last entry we have visited Penang, went back to KL and are now feeling quite chilly in the Cameron Highlands. We were in Penang for three days, one of which was spent lazing around a beach bar drinking nice cold Tiger beer - that's the life!! We also joined a day-trip on a boat, which took us out on a very rough sea - all on board said a number of prayers as it was one of those tiny Chinese wooden boats that seemed to dive into the waves sideways... But, we all survived and spent some time in a more quiet and relaxing area fishing and checking out "monkey beach', where there were...well...ehhh...monkeys! Very cute, but also a bit scary as they climb onto you to get to the food!! The third day ... read more
