Today I had a chance to walk around and see a few things. So this update will have a lot of different pictures I took. I started out today by going to visit the Nagoya Castle. I have a few pictures from there. I also took a number of pictures on the way there. Randy and I ended up going by a temple on the way to the castle. The castle itself was great to view from the outside, however, on the inside it was less enchanting. The castle itself is has been rebuilt with a modern floor plan on the inside. There is a good reason for this. As promised here is some history on Nagoya. During World War II Nagoya was bombed heavily. Since Nagoya was close to the coast it lent itself well ... read more

I have landed and checked in without incident. I think. There was a problem finding my reservation due to my last name and the fact the company name was somehow listed in it as well. So I had a very odd name. Luckily I had my confirmation number. Then I was asked about payment and that I could pay later, though I had given my card. I think he meant for incidentals. Not totally sure. He did hand me a room key so I assume I am golden. Plus I got an ironing board really quick. In honor of being in Japan for the first time, Randy, myself and the man we will be working with/for, went to eat at the outback steakhouse. Just so Randy could get some more beef. We were told lunches at ... read more

Hopefully, everyone can read this and can view the pictures no problem. I have not left for Japan yet but I am getting this blog ready and testing it out. You should be greated with a picture of the famous....Infamous???? Bagel. I do miss my buddies (Bagel is plural for a buddy because he rocks that much) Either way I hope to add pictures as I go. I am not sure how much I will be working, but that does come first so stick with me if nothing gets updated for a while.... read more

This week has been draining but I got through all of my classes which i'm happy about and i've finally finished my 2 weeks of training! I have met some great people and made some friends too. But sadly as of next Monday we all go our separate ways to each of our cities. Nagoya has been a really nice place to expereience, in just 2 weeks I have visited Nagoya Castle as well as Nagashima Spa Land which is THE BEST theme park i've ever been too! I've also experienced Izakaya dining and I went out to Karaoke last night which was super fun! I got a little drunk and sang my little heart out! So i'll start from Nagoya Caslte. Well Kirsty, Sarah and I decided to head on over and check out the ... read more

Hi everyone! For the first couple of entries i'm just going to paste emails i've sent out to people here and there and add pictures - saves me from having to repeat myself! Flying into Osaka was fine - we arrived 6pm Thursday 13th March 2008. Customs was SO easy i could have brought one kilo of cocaine in and they would have never known.... yeah. Their idea of customs is... i wheeled my trolley past them and they litterally just looked at it in a way which said - i am imagining what you have in that bag and from here it looks ok so you may enter our country have a nice stay ^ ha - and i was worried about my tea bags hehe I am now in Nagoya in an internet cafe ... read more

This we expected to be interesting, but there wasnt much there to be honest. Nagoya Castle looked pretty by night but there wasnt too much else to see. Finding somewhere to eat was even more difficult as the language barrier became a problem. Also "no meat and no fish" in the same sentence seems a little incomprehensible to the Japanese, plus chicken and pork are not thought of as meat! Our Hotel was fairly authentic with reed floor and a roll out bed. Strictly shoes off and no private shower, instead a male and female communal sauna / steam room plunge pool style thing, an experience! ... read more

On Saturday Cate and jumped on the Shinkansen and headed to Nagoya to watch a baseball game. I have never seen baseball live before and it is really huge over here so I was very excited!!! It was my 2nd time to Nagoya but my first visit was just a night of drinking so I was hoping to see a little more of Nagoya than just the pubs.... The Baseball was extremely cool, lots of action and excitment happening both on the field and in the stadium. The atmosphere was alive and there were a group of young Japanese guys in front of us and they made us feel very included in their cheering and banging on their sticks. I loved that for snacks instead of a pie with sauce you get noddles or rice. But ... read more
