We are a little behind on our blog...but...better late then never =) (plus, you may get a little chuckle out of this one) After a busy 5 days in Tokyo, we set off on our 1st train ride ever stopping in Nagoya for one night, then off to Kyoto. We bought a Japan Rail Pass to get us around Japan, which now (after our adventures in Japan has come to an end) we can say was worth every penny. We were able to take the bullet trains all over Japan with this pass which was perfect since we wanted to cover alot of ground over our 16 days in Japan. The bullet train was amazing! Always on time...to the minute. For those who know us well...yes we are amost always late for things...but not in Japan, ... read more
Being this is my first blog and the fact that I do not move to Nagoya for another 2 weeks, I thought I would use this as a test blog and put some pictures of my life here in the US. I accepted a position in Nagoya, Japan. My company has offices all over the world and I have been applying to openings from Asia to Africa. I really didn't care what office I got, I just wanted the opportunity to work and live abroad. Luckily, I got Japan. I leave for Japan in about 2 weeks. There is so much I have to do before I leave and I have def. been slacking. So that’s it for now. Sorry my first entry is rather boring; I promise it will get better once I am in ... read more
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I have been lazy and have put off publishing more of my AMAZING adventures that thrill everyone soo much. First let me start by saying this past weekend I had some AWESOME mexican food this weekend compliments of a new friend who works at a different site. She has a house and invited me over to help cook. Man it was delicious. Any way so in my down time I have made it to a beach, back to Nara and went to see fishing. First off the beach I went to was in Obama, it was Wada beach in Wakusa. Wada beach was VERY nice. There were a small chain of little rocks you could row out to and swim. There were little waves and the water went from shallow to deep gradually. So I ... read more
I AM BACK!! So After my first week back I have my first update. This past weekend a few coworkers and I decided to go try the beach near work. You would never guess by work that there is a nice beach nearby. Since our beach trip went so well we decided to try another adventure on sunday. We jumped on a train and headed south along the coast. Our goal was to head inland to get to a grouping of waterfalls. The place is near Iga just south east of Nara. We had to make an exchange but we seemed to figure it out pretty well. Once we got to the train station we started our walk. I had heard that once you get to the station you just walk and its all nice. However, ... read more
I had planned for Sunday to be the day I took Nagoya castle and aquarium off the to-do list, maybe even the shrine or a braizen dash towards Matsumoto to suck in the view of its famed moated castle, alas neither of this did happen. Instead I had given in to jetlag of the highest order. Not managing to fall asleep until three in the morning I instead chose to waste the day away sleeping in late and not really doing much. In the afternoon I headed over to the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium - home of the Nagoya Basho tournament - to have a look around outside the arena and maybe catch a rikishi or two arriving at the scene. It was a blazing hot day but I soon found myself in a small crowd gathering ... read more

As the Moomin-painted A340 descended towards Centrair, the major regional airport on an artifical island south of Nagoya, the sky seemed somewhat blueish in colour, but as we came closer and closer to the ground the sickly grey haze got more and more prominent and started to consume objects at the horizon, and then creeping steadily closer and closer. For some reason I have developed an idea that much of Japan (and other cities in Asia for that matter) seems to be consumed by this grey hunger. Buildings in drab concrete whites, beiges and greys don't add much spice to the variety either. On the other hand, this is more than compensated for by a colourful and interesting population. My philosophical wanderlust was swiftly whisked away by a breeze of hot air streaming towards my face ... read more
So friends, time for one last update before I take off this Friday to go vacation in St Louis. WOOOHOOOOO vacation back home. Well this is a special update, probably the best one yet in my mind. I had planned to get this out last week and suprise everyone with a double update in one week. However, sleep, and exploring got in the way. Either way here we go. This update is special because it showcases two great nights. The first night I was able to go to dinner with my fellow co-workers both American and Japanese. This was real fun. We picked a place to eat close to work and a big group of us went. The Japenese co-workers that showed up were all from Utsenomia which is closer to Tokyo than Nagoya. They get ... read more
That one word helps a lot. It means seperate or independantly of. I use it a lot when I go out to eat with other coworkers. I have taken to carrying a Dictionary in my pocket just in case. I am getting a bit better at picking up and saying a few things. I think I owe this to my Japanese teacher Uetake-san. Well we talk about music and guitars all the time during breaks and he teaches me a few Japanese words and I teach him English. So any way, I had been stalling on updating my blog here. I feel bad but I just did not have any pictures to put up. So I decided that I should probably carry my camera on me at all times when I walk around and snap pictures ... read more
I keep meaning to write another blog but I keep getting sidetracked. So here is the long delayed update. Time seems to fly by too fast. I had to break down and get a hair cut. I heard of a few good places, but I had some friends who said they knew where to get the best haircut ever. The downside, however, was you would end up looking just like the guy who cut your hair. I had to find out exactly what my friends meant. So I went to the Barber shop and walked right in. Inside there was this nice old man. He spoke very little english, but he did not need to say anything, because I was going to get the same haircut that everyone else got. So I sat down and was ... read more
8 Days?!?! Really? I thought I had published my last entry sooner than that. Time is flying. This weekend everything seemed to slow down a bit and I was able to walk around and enjoy a few things. However, all these pictures are from my trip 2 weekends ago. I have more pictures of some shrines. I also took a picture of a car for the shop guys, I did not forget about your request to get some nice pictures of a modified car. Speaking of cars I have seen 4 Ferraris and 1 Lamborgini. I do not know where those people get thier money. I have to say I have had great food here. I will try to get some pictures of it. My pants get tighter everyday, so I am going to have to ... read more
