A fun day out for MEK

 Asia » Japan » Shizuoka » Shimizu
The end of the school year here is approaching fast, just 2 weeks to go!!! All of MEK went on an excursion yesterday to the Science Marine Museum. It was the first time I have been there and i was very cool for the children. They got to see a lot of different fish and dinosaur bones. The children had a shared lunch with their mothers and some fathers. There was a farewell for Marissa and Cate who will be leaving Japan in a few weeks for their next adventure. The children sang 'You are my sunshine', to them and they [View Full Entry]

Well Im back in Japan for my second year, have been back for nearly 3 months and have been very slack with keeping this blog up to date. Since being back I have been enjoying feeling like I live here rather than a tourist for a year. My weekends are much more relaxing now, Im not rushing of every weekend to see something new, it makes a nice change. Since being back I have been enjoying drinking with friends and just hanging out. I finally went ice skating which was brilliant and I loved every minute of it. I went with [View Full Entry]

Last Sunday MEK had its annual Christmas concert......I had heard about the concert pretty much from when I started in January. It is a huge event at the Kindy and it didn't disappoint. The children were amazing at their songs and instruments and were so well behaved on the day, my Panda's were even listening!!! For weeks and weeks we had been practicing and I was so over all the songs we were singing that when the concert finished I was relieved and there will be no sining in my class until January.....I just can't do any more!! My class did [View Full Entry]

Happy Halloween !!!

 Asia » Japan » Shizuoka
Halloween is very popular in Japan which was fine by me as being an Aussie girl I have never experienced Halloween. I was excited to get dressed up and go out to a Halloween party at our local Boozer. I decided to go as a fairy but it was a naughty fairy....I brought a fairy dress from Donkey and I was set to be skanky for the night. I went to Boozer with an angel (Marissa) and a serial killer (Mario) and meet Yuuki there. It was a fun night and very cool to see everyone dressed up. People had gone [View Full Entry]

Fukuoka and Beppu

 Asia » Japan » Fukuoka
Im sitting in my hostel having a nice cold beer (I may have a slight drinking problem) after a fabulous day at Beppu. I arrived yesterday in Fukuoka after a 5 hour Shinkansen trip which I survived even with the annoying child kicking the back of my seat the whole way. I knew before arriving that there was not a great deal to see here which suited me fine as I just wanted to venture to this part of Japan, relax and do some shopping at the super cool Canal City!! I also wanted to go to Beppu to get a [View Full Entry]

Japanese Fire Walking I got experience fire walking for the first time and lets just say Im glad I wasn't one of the first crazy people to walk over the blazing red coals. In Asabata where I live there was a festival for the fire walking ceremony. The festival was set up on the street I live on which was pretty cool, I could step out my door and see the festivities from my door. I have come to love Japanese festival, great food. The fire ceremony was held at the temple and it began with cereony chanting and praying [View Full Entry]

On Saturday Cate and jumped on the Shinkansen and headed to Nagoya to watch a baseball game. I have never seen baseball live before and it is really huge over here so I was very excited!!! It was my 2nd time to Nagoya but my first visit was just a night of drinking so I was hoping to see a little more of Nagoya than just the pubs.... The Baseball was extremely cool, lots of action and excitment happening both on the field and in the stadium. The atmosphere was alive and there were a group of young Japanese guys in [View Full Entry]

Since I have been in Japan I have been wanting to go to a day at the Sumo. Sumo is a part of traditional Japan and it was on the top of my must do list. Sumo only takes place a few months a year. The tournament starts on the first Sunday closest to the 10th of the month and lasts for 2 weeks. I went to the first day of the tournament with Cate and Daria. We got up very early and caught the first Shinkansen to Tokyo so we could line up for tickets. The early start was worth [View Full Entry]

Here comes the Sun

Asia » Japan » Shizuoka » Mt Fuji
Putting my feeling into words will not do my experience of climbing Mt Fuji any justice..... It was the most amazing yet exhuasting thing I have ever done in my life. I have never felt so many emotions one after the other, hour after hour. Every step I took brought a new feeling, my mind was overflowing with them. I went through stages of feeling inspired, exhilerated, delpeted, harmonious, invigorated and like my body was ready to shut down. Up the Mountain We Went After a delay in traffic and a few wrong turns Kate and I arrived at Kamaguchi 5th [View Full Entry]
