I decided to venture out for a day trip by myself to Kamakura. I hadn't gone on the JR line or Shinkansen by myself before so I was feeling all the emotions, excitment, fear of ending up in the wrong town in the wrong direction from where I wanted to be but I must say I was mainly excited. I had heard great things about Kamakura and it was a place on the top of my list to do. So of I went on my little adventure, had to get up at 5:20am, that was hard in itself. Got the [View Full Entry]

When you think about graduations you think about finishing High School and University not Kindygarten... Yesterday the oldest class at MEK graduated..... yep they are 6 years old and they are going of to Japanese Primary school. It was the most amazing, emotional day. I could not even imagine Australian Kindygartens ever doing something like this. First the graduating children and their mothers and fathers came to the Kindy for the very formal ceremony. The parents were very dressed up and I was so excited to see two mothers in their Kimonos. First the children marched in while the pare [View Full Entry]

WOW....what a night!!! Went to Fuji 10 with some amazing people to go Snowboarding, only my second time. I was a little hesitant about going again as the first time was so hard it didnt know if I could go through with it all again, so glad I did. I have named this night as my best night in Japan so far!!! We arrived got straight into it, I was surprised with myself I actually managed to snowboard for a few minutes before falling on my arse instead of seconds. I was doing brilliantly....I was having a lovely time on the [View Full Entry]

I have been here fron nearly 3 months so I decided it was time I went for a walk around the town, which is my home for 2007. I am living in Asabata which is North of Shizuoka, about 20 minutes drive. I love it here, you're out of the city and at the base of the mountains...its very peaceful. I have days when I totally forget that I am living in Japan...well until I see all the Japanese people obviously. I have settled in nicely and wouldnt want to be anywhere else....anyway back to my senic walk of Asabta. I [View Full Entry]

Weekends in Japan are fabulous, never a dull moment and always something new to see and do!! Amy and I decided to go strawberry picking a few weekends ago, I was really excitied about it...........and then it was a big let down. I dont know why but I imagine strawberry picking to be completely outside not in a small, insect infested hothouse. There was no getting in touch with nature, but the strawberries were oishi.......and you get to eat them with condenced milk. It was another experience never the less. For anyone living in Japan I have a must see for [View Full Entry]

The day at the Zoo!!

 Asia » Japan » Shizuoka
We took all the kindy children to the Nihondaira Zoo. They were so excited about seeing the animals and having a picnic there with their mothers and fathers. It was a great day.....I thought it was lovely to see all the parents there to share the experience with their children. I am used to working in a school in Australia where you get hardly any parent interest. The Zoo itself was not great, the grounds were unkept and the animals looked like they deserved a better life than the one in this zoo. I was shocked at the state of the [View Full Entry]

Surrounded by beauty (Izu)

 Asia » Japan
A birthday in Japan, fabulous. Turning 28, for me not so fabulous. Yes I know its not old but its pretty close to 30 and again 30 also not old at all. The problem for me turning 28 is not the number but the fact that Im still hovering around the world with no real direction. Amy(my house mate) knowing that I was not looking forward to my birthday made an exciting suggestion for us to head to Izu for 3 days. Brilliant plan, Onsen, whitesand beaches, beautiful coastline and 3 days of relaxation...what could be better. Izu is a beautiful [View Full Entry]
