So last night I decided to go for a beer at Cafe Cuba on the beach.... Felt I deserved it for doing nothing really LOL, ended up staying there 'til about 11pm. Met a guy named Xavier from MTL. It kinda gave it away that he was Canadian because of his Canada Post shirt... He's been living and working here since December I believe.. I think I went to bed around 12am. I actually slept in for the first time in a while today... 10 am!!! WOW LOL I had to head into Margoa today, a town near by. I took the local bus as it's MUCH cheaper than trying to get a taxi there. It takes about an hour to get there. Reason being because the ATM doesn't work for me here and I remembered ... read more

Just back from lunch - boy if I ever thought I was going to lose weight here I was so wrong. The food here is plentiful and very nice - very spicy tho'. Lunch was a multi course meal and I feel like I'm about to burst! probably everything will taste bland when I get back. Dined in the hotel restuarant last night and had the most wonderful chicken kebabs - at last a plate full of chicken. LOL. The hotel gym is far better than expected and I was finally able to train last night. Check out the photo's. The gym staff guy spotted me while I did bench and managed to push out 3 reps at 75kg before going back to concentrate on form. gotta get back to work - will update some more ... read more

Goa beyond the beaches - Part II Text and photographs copyright Neville Bulsara, 2006. All rights reserved. Having visited and photographed in Mapusa, Panjim, and Old Goa (see Goa beyond the beaches - Part I), my group didn't need any further convincing that there was far more to Goa than it's beaches. It was obvious that their experience so far had left them with a thirst for more. I, for one, aimed to please! If there is one thing that my travels have taught me, it is that there is a difference between a traveller and a tourist. Tourists tend to visit a place with several pre-concieved notions, tend to stick to the most-happening tourist spots listed in the travel guide. All very well, but what they lack is a sense of wanting to r... read more

5:15 AM - I wake up in my hotel room to the sound of the phone ringing for my wake up call. "Saaar, this is your call for the wake up" a voice drones. I shake my head at how such a seemingly simple sentance can go so wrong. I look around my hotel room and realize that i've already been in Hyderabad for 3 weeks. So much has happened already on this trip and I'm anxious to get my day started. 5:45 AM - 1 shower, 2 bottles of water, and a hasty prayer layer, I'm downstairs getting into the back seat of my company car. My driver Vasant tells me that his son just completed his 6th standard exam and his daughter is now applying for university. Vasant is amazing...a driver for the past ... read more

Ok been a delay in making a new posting due to a) sitting on a peacefull palm fringed beach for the past week and b) very slow internet connection at current location, Hampi, and so this will just be a brief update with sadly no photos...they will come though. We did manage to get out of hot&humid mosquito ridden Cochin and head 600kms up the coast to Goa which has a much more pleasant climate. Stayed in a small village completely geared for the backpacker scene, Palolem. The main beach was a long broad cove backed by an endless choice of restaurants/bars...convenient but a bit overrun...we ended up finding a more secluded beach the next cove down, Patnem Beach. Each day we met up there with John and Kerrie, chatted endlessly, ate enormously (some of us ... read more

After a four hour layover in Singapore - cruising the duty free shops..... arrived in India in the wee hours of the morning (according to Australian time it was 2am and by the time I hit the hotel it was 4am) So this was 10pm in India - absolute chaos, after getting thru immigration my driver spotted me thankfully, as there are so many people all trying to get you into their cars. I'm sure road laws are non existant, the dividing lines are just to look good as we spent much of the drive on the centre line, creating a third lane. Indicators are just an unnecessary accessory and they drive just a hare's breath away from the other cars on either side and in front. I had to close my eyes passing people on ... read more

Yeah well ain't life just grand? I'm still here doing nothing. Yesterday was such a lazy day I can't even tell you. I fell asleep in my bed with all the lights on while reading.. oops I guess I WAS really tired. Woke up at 1am a little confused and being bit by some enormous black ant. So I feel much better today. Was up and just lying in bed at 8am trying to figure out what I was going to do today... conclusion.. not much more than yesterday LOL. Well actually I got a mototaxi to town so I ould take out some money from the ATM, but of course, it didn't work and there are no other ATMs around. Crap! I guess I'll have to use my last traveler's cheque. Oh well. I bought ... read more

We're having a great time, as you can tell by our lack of commitment to our travel blog. I guess we were a bit over ambitious thinking that we would be disciplined enough to stay on top of it. Oh well. After we plied ourselves off the beaches of Goa, we headed inland to see two World Heritage Sites: Ellora and Ajanta. Both are a series of temples carved out of basalt (volcanic rock) cliffs, but the two locations are quite different. Ellora consists of three series of over 34 cave temples: some Buddhist, some Hindu, and some Jain. They date from the 16th century. The main attraction is a Hindu temple called Kailash, which is the largest monolithic structure in the world. That is, it is carved out of one solid piece of rock! Thus, ... read more

Strays. They're everywhere here. Stray dogs, stray monkeys, stray hippies, even stray cows. Stray dogs appear to top the list - India is full of them and this town is no exception. Mangey, flea-ridden, sometimes crippled, often cute, they roam the streets singularly or in packs. They're mostly harmless on their own, but there's strength in numbers and I've been told that when four or more get together they can sometimes be trouble. The streets here are NARROW, with no sidewalks, so when a car or motorcycle comes screaming along one must be fleet of feet to jump out of the way in time. Not the dogs, however. They calmly stay put until the very last instant, and if the car does not go around them then they very casually get up and move to the ... read more
