It was sudden and unplanned, so a ‘been there done that’ kind of trip! What all was decided that we are leaving Mysore at six in the morning and heading west. 3rd Dec, It was a cool and cloudy morning. A lot of seemingly enthusiastic people retracted on the very last moment. So there were only two of us and the ‘pulsar’ down the Madikeri Road. The previous posting tells you all about the needful to be done on the way to Madikeri. So, this time it’s Madikeri and beyond. The story actually begins on Sunday, Dec 4th. It’s a small story; all about a journey and not merely reaching the pre-planned destinations. 4th Dec, It was my first trip on bike and got an irritating back ache after riding through the bumpy roads yesterday. But ... read more

A weekend getaway to Wayanad and Kozhikode As the wise saying goes, “never miss an extended weekend in IT industry” and that too when you’re living a three hours drive away from “God’s own country”! It was August, the monsoon had fed Bharatpuzha and Perriyar well, the Ghats were under the wrap of emerald carpets and the clouds were firing the imaginations of the poets. Everything was perfect; I mean almost. The brooding buddies were still confused as always; late to reach the decision, but all too well that they finally reached it before Friday midnight. People scrambled over their tracks, Nike shoes, sunglasses, toothbrushes and budgetary calculations till one o’clock in the morning. Finally I called up BIT office at 1:30 am, seems ridiculous and obviously nobody picked up the call. 13th August, 05 ... read more

Down The Salvation Trail This is National Highway 58 and I’m traveling on a DTC bus on my way to Haridwar. Today is 10th of June and I‘ve reached New Delhi at around 10 o’clock in the morning. With a heavy breakfast in my stomach headed for ISBT on a notorious Delhi auto rickshaw. Got a bus at eleven and heading for Uttaranchal now.........zzzzz.......feeling sleepy! It’s my first trip to Haridwar! Although we had to cancel our trip to Dehradun and the beautiful little Mussourie due to time constraints...never mind...there is always a next time! 11th June, 2004 So done all the needful; didn’t climb Manasa and Chandi Pahar(I’m not supposed to ruin my holidays just by queuing up for so long) , watched the evening prayers and rituals of Ganga Pujan at Har ki ... read more

A trip to Kochi, Backwaters and the misty Munnar It’s a land of rice n fish curry, banana chips, coconut plantations, green backwaters, Chinese fishing nets and the Kathakali. It’s a land of centuries old temples, churches and Colonial settlements. It’s a land of tiger infested jungles, raging waterfalls, golden beaches, misty hill stations and endless tea gardens. It’s a land of football, cartoonists, and Communism. Welcome to Kerala! Never mind, it’s only for the un-initiated. You know, I am biased and whenever any voting situation comes up for weekend holiday destinations, I vote for Kerala! It often amazes myself; rest alone the others! So this time around it was no different. Gokarna, Chikmagalur, Goa, wait for a while! The suckers at the corporate block sometimes take good decisions; I must say. So we got ... read more

Still on Palolem beach and quite happy about it. Carolyn is leaving in 2 days and I'll still be sticking arounf here for another week or so after her. Liek my last update said, there's not much going on here to keep you updated on. Put here's what we've done so far... 1. Slept in 2. hit the beach for some tanning 3. swam 4. eaten (lots!) 5. drank lots of beer (especially yesterday... 9 am - 7pm... ouch!) That's pretty much it. We met a nice Australian guy and a French girl and decided to have some drinks with them yesterday... which started too early adn ended too late. Slept well last night that's for sure.. LOL So yeah, that's pretty much it.. wish I had more to say, but really I don't. Other than ... read more

NORBULINKA ya'll. it was a good day...it is actually the day that we were at REWA from the last blog...erika and daniel were sick, so it was just me and colette and we went solo on this adventure. it was cool and the gang. so we left REWA and walked all the way down to dharamsala and caught a bus that we hoped took us to Norbulinka...they kept saying "Karmapa" and i thought he lived there so we got on and ended up at the monastery that he lives at...it was very pleasant. it was basically two long dorm things and then a temple elevated at the end...the weather was perfect and there was a LAWN ... read more

this one is a little outdated too. but whateva. my friends daniel and erika had menitioned something about a monastery around dharamkot and it was kinda the way to triund but not and none of us really knew for sure...but we had nothin' else to do and we were all lookin' to get out. so we left up the "steep road" to dharamkot. it was a lovely day...erika was in and out of nausea on the way up ... we got to dharamkot.. and took the road less travelled. through the sunsoaked forest. towards the prayer flags...and before we knew it we really had no idea where we were walking and it kept getting better and better. daniel lost and found one of his only two shirts showing off his torn boxers as he ran to ... read more

We got to Jaislamer and hurray hurray actually managed to find the hostel we wanted to go to without hassle. It was great to have Magnus along for the journey, as he was full of questions for Bengali. The hostel was fab - we got a room with a balcony over looking the POOL! We were just so excited! Seeing as we were in the middle of a heat wave at it was 42 degrees we had to try the pool out straight away! Then we went for dinner and I leave Irene on her own for ten minutes and she causes havoc!! Some random Indian youngsters came up to her at the table and started asking loads of questions, then started "You have lovely eyes", "What do you like about me?", "Can I sit down" ... read more

Asia » India » Rajasthan » Jodhpur April 6th 2006

I'm sitting in a grotto on a tiny medieval lane in Jodhpur. I suppose the 3 computers flickering in a row qualify this as an cybercafe. I've had some of the most incredible experiences in the last two weeks but I can't seem to call any to mind over the racket of voices, horns, drums and general racket outside. It's Ramnavani today, the festival celebrating Ram's birthday. The streets are filled with floats, cars, camels, oxen and loads of folks dressed up as Sita, Ram and every conceivable character from the Ramayana. Maybe it's the heat or maybe it's the moon, but the choppy drone of the Hindi baritone on the phone beside me is only slightly more tolerable than nails on a chalkboard. Rajasthan has destroyed what little tolerance I once had for carriers ... read more

I'll try to make this as uplifting and positive as possible but right now Im getting over a serious war with the toilet. After many attacks the bowl resisted and concessions are finally being made. Melissa has just taken on the fever part of the flu, aka travelers bug, and is now in bed sleeping it off. We got it from a vendor who sells mint and lime sodas that he prepares on the street, there supposed to heal the soul or something. I guess I needed a lot of soul cleansing. Luckily we bought some generic cipro while in Thailand and it has settled the bacteria party in our stomachs. So now we are taking it very easy on the foothills of the himalayas in Rishikesh, the yoga capital of the world. The town is ... read more
