Hey guys today we went out for a dinner kindly paid for by Josh's dad. Marion, Josh's girlfriend suggested we experience the restaurants in Chun King Mansion in Tsim Tsa Tsui in Kowloon. So we set off at 7 for central and made a detour to Causeway Bay. Josh wanted to get some shelves and Claire and I bought a camera. Naughty, I know but how else could we keep supplying you guys with photos of our trip. Anyway we got quite a good deal it was about £80 cheaper than you would get it in the UK. Don’t expect electrical goods over here to be much cheaper than they are in the UK. There are cameras for sale cheaply but these are in dodgy stores like the ones in Tsim Tsa Tsui in Nathan Road. ... read more

In Hong Kong in order to get a feel of how big the island really is you really need a birds eye view, with this in mind we headed up to the richest part of the island, Victoria Peak. The adventure started straight from the word go in a high speed taxi ride from central, these guys are crazy it reminded me of the guy from the French film taxi, at any minute I expected him to press a button and a racing spoiler to appear! Mad! However it was only 15 bucks for two kilometers, that about a pound, so well worth the ride. He dropped us at the tram station which leaves every ten minutes, as we walked towards the counter I noticed all the posters of all the trams that have changed over ... read more

Hi guys hope you're all well and checking in to see what were up too! Today me and Will ventured into Hong Kong Central. It's strange, when you look at Hong Kong at night you think its very futuristic but when you get into the nit and grit of it all, its seems a lot dirtier and poorer then you'd think. All the little streets that make up central seem like the back alleys of oliver twist! with dingy yet colourful market stalls each stall trying to intise you to buy something from them! It really is fascinating! However their is also the glitz and glam from the expensive indoor shopping centres, whether its prada or Gucci! the floors are so clean you can see you're face in them! sadly Will dragged me right past these ... read more

... read more

Hey guys, thanks for all of the emails so far, glad that it is free use of the internet here as ive been checking my emails for a while! Hong Kong is really great and so too are all the people. Outside all of the restaurants they have all kinds of fish and god knows what else floating about, its a bit freaky but i'm sure we'll get used to it! Today we are off to see the Big Budda which is on lantua island, it should be pretty cool.On the 19th a mate of mine from oz is coming to hong kong and so we are all going to meet up with him and have a few drinks. Other than that, i dont think we have much else to tell you about. Until next time. ... read more

Sadly this is my last Hong Kong entry, our 2 months are up and it is time to leave our little flat in Sheung Wan and head back into China. In our final weeks we saw some top sights that we had been saving such as; Ocean Park (a giant amusement park reminiscent of Alton Towers with a very scary 60 storey vertical drop and a cool aquarium), Mong Kok with its ace market streets, Lantau island, which boasts the worlds tallest seated bronze Budda statue! Man Mo temple with its huge incense coils hanging from the ceiling, Macau (see separate entry for Macau), Aberdeen harbour..not much to see here! Thousand Budda Monastry which more than lives up to it's name (12,800 Buddas) but Will and I were much more interested by the statues on the ... read more

Hey, Merry Christmas to you all and Happy New Year! I hope it was full of fun and festive cheer. Here we spent christmas day trying to devour a roast dinner that could have fed a factory of hungry elves and we are looking forward to a boozy New Years Eve out on the town in the Central district of Hong Kong Island. We have been in Hong Kong for over a month now (the time has gone so quickly!) and I feel like we're are really getting to know the place despite not being able to afford to live it up too much as it is so, so expensive! It's nice to feel a bit more like a resident rather than just a passer-by and we are even starting to make friends with our local ... read more

After a few days in Singapore we flew into Hong Kong. It was relatively cold there (15-17degrees!!), especially after being in Malaysia and Singapore. We even had to wear jumpers the whole time. In Hong Kong they really go to town with the Christmas lights. This and the colder weather made it seemed a bit more like Christmas for us. Our first day was spent at the newly opened Disneyland Hong Kong!!! It's the smallest of the Disney parks but it's brand new and so much cleaner than EuroDisney. One thing about the Hong Kong and Chinese people is that they really love taking pictures. You couldn't walk anywhere in the park with out stepping into someone elses photo. There were all of the usual Disney shows to visit but one of them had Cantonese speaking ... read more

I am writing from Hanoi about Hong Kong as I don't think my H.K. blog got through. So here's a recap: We stayed at the Sheraton in Kowloon across from the H.K. island and had the most magnificent view of Victoria Harbor, a panarama of skyscrapers all lit up in creative and spectacular ways, including 40 story Christmas scenes of Santas and holiday gifts. Each night at 8:00 there was a laser show on the harbor of these building with the lights choreographed, colorful and exciting. Lot of locals with children lined up on the new Avenue of the Stars (handprints and stars of Chinese celebrities, e.g. Jackie Chan) and oohed and aahed as the 15 minute show danced its dance. Here are some things worth knowing about Hong Kong. Public transport is absolutely fab ulous, ... read more

Well folks, the time has finally come and we will be heading back to the good ol' US of A tommorow morning. We wanted to send one last entry out to all of you who are still reading. We have been in Hong Kong the last few days and having a fabulous time. Yesterday was a day of sightseeing and small food, which of course means in Cora's book, it was a fabulous day. We started the morning off with dim sum at a traditional chinese restaurant which was overwhelming and delicious. Dim sum is a meal of lots of small things which come in bamboo steamers. Ladies roll around carts of various items which are labeled on the front in chinese. Seeing as how neither of us has much skill in the language, we basically ... read more
