Hi, Sorry it’s been so long since the last update. Believe it or not this is the first chance we have had to update the blog since Rwanda. So, where to start… Well since we last wrote we have left Rwanda and headed back through Uganda and Kenya and arrived in Tanzania. Currently we are on Zanzibar Island and I am writing this from a beach hut on the white sands whilst watching people playing volleyball - yip life is tough (NOT!!!) So quick luggage updates: 21 days after arrival I received my luggage (hooray!), however the event wasn’t quite the monumental occasion I had hoped for as the day before our roll mats, sleeping bags, pillows and liners were stolen. As you can imagine that went down like a cup of cold sick (especially as ... read more

Hello from Tanzania We have not posted in some time and this one unfortunately will be brief. After taking a few days off at an undisclosed location we have returned to the mainland and are now in Morogoro, Tanzania. It is about three hours West of Dar es Salaam if that helps. Not much here despite it being a relatively large town but there is a veterinary college. We are spending the week at Sokoine University of Agriculture at there veterinary school (the only official one in Tanzania). It is much smaller than OVC as classes range from 60 to 17 members. More on that after we are done here. As of today only two weeks to go. Seven weeks have gone by very quickly. - Andrew... read more

Today I am setting off for my fourth country in a week. Last Friday I started off traveling to England, Monday I departed for Nairobi, Tuesday I made the four hour bus ride through Kenya to Tanzania and this afternoon I'll be flying to Rwanda. It's been a whirl-wind of a week, but I have had an amazing time. Farms and horse shows in England, meetings in Nairobi, an interview with a prosecutor at the ICTR and a venture out to Moshi and the surrounding villages at the entry point of Kiliminjaro. I'll try to recap all I have experienced this week as best I can... Nairobi The flight from Heathrow to Nairobi took me by surprise as it was loaded with Europeans and Americans. The only Africans on the plane were the Somali mother and ... read more

well we had an excellent few days here in mwanza. it was nice to get away from the village and see some action for a few days! haha but it wasn't all vacation, we did have a meeting with AMREF yesterday about setting up our HIV/AIDS peer education group. we're hoping to get enough $$ together to send a few people from the village to Dar Es Salaam (capital of Tanzania, 30hrs by train) for 4 weeks of training so they can return to Nyamuswa and focus on counselling and educating the people there. There are so many rural areas that just don't have the resources to help all the people in need. But most of the people would like such a thing to happen. so we'll see what we can manage. hopefully this is something ... read more

So the flight was long... very long. We got roughly 2-3 hours of sleep over the course of 35 hours. By the time we made it to Dar last night, we could barely stay upright long enough to enjoy an amazing meal on our road of butter chicken, prawns, Of course accompanied by a bottle of Tusker beer! I felt sick for the first 2 days just getting used to the water and food but im still not eating too much of the street food. Daresalam is a city alive with people everywhere, at all hours of the day. We had no idea that African street food could taste this good. And yes, Alykhan tried madaf (coconut), victoria, prawns, pilipili corn, sugar cane, guava, barazi, mishkakhi and loved it! We have tried many of the foods ... read more

This week we've been working out at Hannah's Nursery School in Boma Ngombe. There is a very sweet and unique story behind this little school in this small rural village of Tanzania. I was amazed and so impressed with one of our local brethren, someone who we already knew was an amazing asset to the church, someone who is already doing so much in the way of evangelism and helping others on his own, someone who translates for us all to be able to follow along in worship in wonderful English, someone who translates for so many guests who come over and teach Bible studies of their own during campaign times and then to learn about the dedication and love that this 25 year old single Tanzanian man has for children has been such a ... read more

Hi all Just a quickie here, not much time. I just want to give you a wee bit more information on any donations you might want to send out here (quite a few of you have had a few questions). Just to tell you a little something.....a couple of the other volunteers here took in the box for the world map jigsaw puzzle that I had (that was donated by one of Helen & Mike Ross's friends). Just the box, and the teacher and kids were absolutely fascinated. The teacher had never seen a map, did not know where Africa was, and was so thankful to the volunteers when she saw how far away from Africa they were from. The kids also asked if they could take the crayon boxes home with them (empty boxes), ... read more
