Searching for cheap volunteer work in Dar es Salaam.

Hiya.
I'm planning to go to Dar es Salaam in the summer 2010. I would really love to do some volunteer work for a couple of weeks to a little over a month depending on what kind of work it is. I would prefer to work with children, but any other kind of work would be very much appreciated! I have surfed the net and haven't managed finding any kind of volunteer work that doesn't cost loads of money, which I sadly wont be able to afford with my low budget. Therefor I would love to have some help - if anyone has some experiences or knows of any volunteer work in Dar that does not cost too much.

Please help 😊
xx Amy. Reply to this

I have an NGO based in Moshi. I will ask connections I have in Dar to see what programs you can work with. There are many opportunities to volunteer at no cost except your housing and meal expenses but these NGO's do not have the big marketing budget that the expensive, for profit international organizations do. If nothing else, you can find a program once you are in Dar easily enough. Be prepared to pay for a class C permit $120. Best of luck. Reply to this

You can also do cheap volunteer work in Port Elizabeth or Capetown, South Africa. Khayavolunteer can help you if you are interested. www.khayavolunteer.com for a lot of projects with children, animals and townships. Reply to this

It is a volunteer organization and I may go to Tanzania to volunteer after graduation. I do not know that much about them. Didn't know if they may work with Global Crossroads after the negative I've seen on this board. Reply to this

I would not choose an international organization. They subcontract in each country that they operate in anyway. Do you really need to be paying for an organization to have offices in other countries? Of course it will be much more expensive than to find a project direct or at least find a local company. Of course, they won't have the marketing that a global program will have so it will take some research. Contact me if you want help in finding alternatives. Either way, you will ahve a life changing experience. Best wishes. Reply to this
