Our hut.
Our hut.
Our hut on Tiwi beach.
This is just going to be a quick update before we head off to the Swahili Coast. Nathan and Marko finally arrived (yeah!) and we are now in Nairobi for a day after returning from 4 days on Safari. Our safari was truly an amazing experience. Rough roads and a few hold ups (our car not starting) here and there, but for the most part it was fantastic. I finally got to taste a bit of the 'African Bush' and live side by side with the Masai people, lions, elephants, giraffes and all. The beauty of this country truly astounds me. [View Full Entry]

Veiled girl.
Friends forever.

It's been a few days and many miles since I have last updated my travels. I am now back in Nairobi after a grueling bus ride all the way from Kigali to Nairobi via Kampala. The two day bus ride passed surprisingly fast, but nearly 48 hours on dirty road and rocks can certainly take a lot out of you. It was impossible to read or write during the journey as my hands and entire body were bouncing up and down constantly. So, I mostly stared out the window at African landscape; the villages filled with people and mud huts. This [View Full Entry]

Goma Our venture into the Congo was brief, but definitely an adrenaline rush. Claude (a friend I met at a conference in Cape Town) picked David and I up from the Gisenyi bus station in the afternoon and then after booking our return ride and checking out the beautiful Kivu Sun Hotel, we made the 3 kilometer journey to the Rwandan-Congolese border. The man at the customs office took my passport and questioned me with a smile, 'Why go to Congo? Stay in Rwanda, it is beautiful here.' I couldn't argue with him, Rwanda is one of the most beautiful places [View Full Entry]

Kigali, Rwanda I have finally made it to Rwanda, The Land of a Thousand Hills. We flew in on Friday from the Arusha-Kilimanjaro airport on a twenty seater RwandanAir Express plane, and from the window, looking out over the country I already knew I would love it here. On a quick side note: I had overheard the man in the aisle next to me mention that he was from Pasadena, so when he pulled out his maps of Tanzania and Rwanda I had to lean over and ask him where he had bought them. Surprise surprise, he had picked them up [View Full Entry]

Today I am setting off for my fourth country in a week. Last Friday I started off traveling to England, Monday I departed for Nairobi, Tuesday I made the four hour bus ride through Kenya to Tanzania and this afternoon I'll be flying to Rwanda. It's been a whirl-wind of a week, but I have had an amazing time. Farms and horse shows in England, meetings in Nairobi, an interview with a prosecutor at the ICTR and a venture out to Moshi and the surrounding villages at the entry point of Kiliminjaro. I'll try to recap all I have experienced this [View Full Entry]
