This is one of our kids favorite Dr. Seuss Books... Life is full of adventure and roads that we choose to travel down from day to day. We wake up each morning and make choices using our heads and our hearts as to which direction our feet will then travel. Living in Tanzania seems to be a new adventure each and every morning. Wondering what lies ahead in store for you in the upcoming hours. As I was reading this classic children's book to little Gracie this morning, I began to think about all the choices that we face in life that effect our final destination. Each day is a new day and each day has a story of it's own as to where life takes you in your adventures. You make right turns and wrong ... read more

THE RWANDA GENOCIDE "When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincable, but in the end, they always fall - think of it, always. Mahatma Gandhi ******************************************* I experienced some of the most horrific truths known to man today. I attended the International Tribunal for the Rwanda Genocide in Arusha over the past two days. Belguim Luietenant-Colonal Claise was testifying to the facts as he experienced them in Kigali, Rwanda in January of 1994 - a time when the country was on the brink of the genocide. Yes, 1994. These grotesque acts of evil seemed to happen while the world looked the other way and those that were not looking away intentionally were ... read more

All week long Brent and one of our visiting campaigners Fred Cabler have been holding a week long Seminar in Usa River, with great sucess! It's been wonderful to hear fred preach and revivie the church there. It was a much needed boost for this steadily growing congregation. Usa river is one of our older small churches out in between Arusha and Moshi. Established back in the 70's with Andrew and Claudine Connally here working in this area. Fariji Paul and his wife Gladness have been serving as the minister there for several years. This area is always bustling with children as you come to visit you get the car chasing herds hollaring "Wazungu, wazungu" because they don't see visitors as often as the ones in Arusha and Moshi. Emily and I decided when we heard ... read more

Who is this little one standing at the door? Have you ever had a bad day, but there was one little face that made you smile! Have you ever known of someone who had been delt a hard life, but through it all continued to show God's love and grace in everything they did? Have you ever just felt like Life wasn't fair? Have you ever wanted to help someone, so bad, but there just wasn't much you could do? Life is a daily challenge here in Tanzania. Life is filled with harsh circumstances, and here in Africa we encounter trials and troubles daily in the lives of the people we come into contact with, befriend, and adore. Its hard to see someone you love living a hard life, suffering unjustly, and there beng very little ... read more

It's here so very early! The house is busy with boxes! We were expecting not to receive the container until December! and the Hedgehog, well that's one I never expected! Well November is already half way through and the time is just flying by. It hardly seems possible that we have already been here for 2 months. With thanksgiving just around the corner and the holidays fast approaching I know everyone back home must be busy about getting things prepared for family and friends and all the get togethers we tend to have this time of year! We are planning on having a Thanksgiving meal here at the staffords house next Thursday as well. All the Missionary families and guests that are here along with some of our co-laboring Tanzanian & Kenyan families. The container ... read more

As easy as the words came to describe what we were going through when we were preparing to make this trip, I am finding it difficult to find the right ones to fill you in on what life has been like since we have arrived. Not the general life itself, as that is all coming along smoothly; but the real life that is going on here in Africa. A plethora of emotions transcends words. The look on a face can say more than the right string of letters in the right combination, put together with punctuation marks. What can you say about, for example, the little girl in the first picture? She was playing with this piece of red plastic on the way to one of the Bible studies we went to today. She was unconcerned ... read more

We've all been laughing at the kids comments and quotes as we are watching them experience a different culture and way of life here in Africa! Garrett's infamous daily quote is: "Well, you don't see that everyday!" but the funny thing is, he says it every day! You're always seeing something new when you drive down the streets here in Arusha. Something, that catches your eye, makes you go "hhhhhmmmmm" , somthings make you laugh and some things make you cry. There are times when your patience is tried and there are time when you learn what life is really all about to begin with. You always come away with an interesting story no matter what you do. You often feel as if your life just flashed before your eyes as the traffic tends to come ... read more

Love the little children! The end of a long exciting month is finally upon us! With it being Halloween today the missionary kids decided to dress up in costumes for last night's devotional over at The Smelser's house. Dr. Danny & Nancy have been such a blessing to have around. This is their last week in country here with us, please be praying for them as they return home this coming Sunday- Monday! The Kids were all just precious and had a great time parading through the living room sharing with all the adults just who, or what they were supposed to be. we had a Witch, a ghost, a queen candace, a queen's servant, a cheetah, a chinese cook, mary the mother of Jesus, and stuart who was just himself! We are so blessed with ... read more

Arusha had it's Ladies Seminar, We had one man baptized through the House to Housestudies that the men were doing, Brent drove to Kenya to sign papers for the container, and the kids and I went to our first ever Rugby game What a day! The ladies seminar went great! We had about 42 ladies there, studying about women's roles in the church, and it was wonderful! Desdery (one of our local evangelissts) and Stephanie did a great job of setting it all up. Then Desdery, Stephanie, Neema, Shasta, Grace, and myself all taught different lessons throughout the day covering a variety of topics. From 9 am until 3:30 in the afternoon. The youth of the congregation volunteered to cook lunch for the ladies and did a wonderful job... It was just fun to see ... read more

The Short rains of Tanzania have slowly started to begin! We have been having a little rain each day this week, up until today! For two days in a row it just poured down... It made for a hard time trying to get the laundry to dry on the line, and did quite a number on the roads! As you can seein the pictures! We drove over to Elly & Neema Martin's house on Saturday to pick up their family to come over for dinner, and it was a messy trip! I took these pictures on the way over there and back! Mud holes 2-3 feet deep, and some holes not worth finding out just how deep they really were! Yet, the African people are still walking around everywhere about their daily activities, as if ... read more
