A quick decider since it is Saturday to head out on the train to Sorrento and then bus to Positano. A bit quieter with the locals but plenty of tourists.

Beautiful ride along the jaw dropping coast line to Positano...we made it Mary!

So the bus driver has done it a hundred times and obviously confident...we choose the side of the bus for the view and a view we certainly got....sheer drop down the cliffs to the sea! Shame we couldn't photograph through the window...very windy road.

Positano maybe the oldest place on the Amalfi coast with settlements dating back to the Upper Paleolithic Age. The Church housing a Byzantine of origin black madonna.

Even though the day was quite warm we didn't swim but we did put our feet in..glad we have come on the shoulder season as it is jam packed.

The shops full of touristy fashions which were brought about in the 60's when the place became quite popular with artisans & movie stars...including Rudolph Nureyev & the Rolling Stones. A Russian 'Ballet' had just finished it's show the day before.

We thought to head back while everyone was having lunch....turned out to be a long day.
So once the evening cooled down we headed out to lap the streets like the locals. We met a lovely man down at the harbour who was more than happy to engage with us some of his local history.
They are very proud of their mountain as it sleepily dominates the town....they are probably more proud of the fact they survived the last eruption in 1944. The AD 79 eruption ultimately released a hundred thousand times the thermal energy released by the Hiroshima-Nagasaki bombings. 'Pliny the Younger' wrote such detailed descriptions of the eruptions having been one of the only survivors that modern volcanologists describe those types of eruptions as "Plinian eruptions".

Prosciutto & cheese ravioli...& I've found the perfect red wine...our kitchen is quite large finished in a lovely granite.
