Probably walked 20+ K today. We headed out across the bridge between the two artificial lakes into the central city garden which is very large. You can cover a large part of the city on quiet trails shared only with pedestrians and bicycles. Very pleasant. Once we left the park we were in the St. Pauli area which is the major port area of the city. Lots of waterfront restaurants along a waterfront walkway. There was a Jeep demonstration and I got the opportunity to drive one over a course including a 40 degree ramp. We then headed back towards the more central area and the smaller of the artificial lakes where we stopped at a lakeside restaurant specializing in ice cream specialties. Our thirst levels dictated cold beer as opposed to ice cream. Back to the hotel to relax our feet after about 6 + hours of walking. Along the way we came across a demonstration related to the Israeli/Palestine conflict. Noisy but peaceful although there was a strong police presence. Hamburg is a very pretty, pedestrian city with good transit and therefore little traffic considering the population. The city is very liberal in outlook with lots of bars open long hours as well as numerous sex-related businesses. Some of the latter are being threatened by redevelopment of those areas.
