Road Trip day. Interesting start to the day. When we were showering the power went out. at breakfast we found out it would be out until around 1 pm and the VISA machine would not work. We didn't have enough cash to pay the bill and they had no paper backup. After several tries in the town I found a cash machine which was working. Temperature cooler today but nice blue sky. We traveled through a major agricultural area. Road side stands sold oranges, tomatoes, onions, potatoes and melons !!!. A large melon was only the equivalent of $.50. Lots of hills, valleys , lakes and windmills. Seems they are into alternative energy in a big way in that area. Lots of wind so it made sense. Found our hotel with little difficulty. I had the longitude and latitude co-ordinaries for the GPS. Bursa is a large centre of about 2 million people. The hotel is very nice and we walked to a nearby shopping centre. As we sat at Starbucks it looked like we were sitting at a mall at home. Many US food and clothing chains. The traffic is very busy. To get to the hotel by car we entered a 4 lane roundabout - what a circus. Walking as a pedestrian is no better. Jaywalking is the order of the day. Last night on TV there was a government ad stating that the economy of Turkey is the 7th largest in the world. They have a young and educated work force and there is a lot of manufacturing. What we have noticed during our travels is that hotel staff work long hours - sometimes a 24 hour shift when another employee has a day off.
