We were up early to a chilly 37 degrees today, so we got out our Gerbings heated jackets and hit the road a little before 7:00 a.m. We continued north for the last leg of our journey on Cassiar Hwy 37 through the amazingly beautiful wilderness of northern British Columbia, passing a number of lakes and majestic mountain peaks.
It was nearly 3 hours before hitting the Yukon border and finally the Alaska Highway at Junction 37. We took a little detour east to Watson Lake, where we finally had our first cup of coffee for the day and breakfast. By then it had warmed up to the 60's! We stopped at the famous Signpost Forest for photos and were amazed at the number of signs from cities all over the world.
From there we headed west again on the Alaska Highway through more beautiful terrain and mountain passes, along rivers, creeks, lakes and ponds. We got a few drops of rain near Rancheria, but the rest of the ride had lots of sunshine. The mountains and vistas along the way were incredible. In a few hours we reached our destination at Teslin where we crossed over

the Nisutlin Bay Bridge (with gnarly metal grating) - the longest water span on the Alaska Highway.
Checking into the Yukon Motel we got a room with a great view of the bridge and Teslin Lake, a 92-mile narrow body of water. We visiting the gift shop and toured the wonderful museum with displays of all the wildlife of the Yukon, then we had a bowl of soup and coffee in the motel restaurant while we did our laundry. This evening we'll enjoy the view from our room while relaxing over a glass of wine - and the end of another spectacular day in the North Woods of Canada.
Tomorrow we finally set foot in Alaska!
