My dream suddenly started hearing 'Under the sea' which was interesting. I then realised it was Alex's alarm going off and it was time to get up at 6:45am. We headed off at 8 am to see the Maheno shipwreck. This ship started off as a diesel travel ship to New Zealand, when the war began it was converted into a hospital ship and is said to have saved over 20,000 lives. After the war it was converted back to a travel ship but there were faster models now available so the Maheno was put up for sale. The Japanese decided they wanted it and as they were towing it back to Japan a cyclone hit and the Maheno became shipwrecked on Fraser Island. The Japanese took everything worth any value off it and left it there. The Australians have since used it for bombing practice. It now just sits half in the sea, half on the land, a skeleton of the ship it used to be.

After our little history lesson we headed to a little inlet to have some brunch - tea and anzac biscuits. We found a message in a bottle which was cool but unfortunately water had seeped in so the letter was unreadable. Hopefully there isn't someone stranded somewhere! Awkward. We headed towards the ferry point. Back on the other side we headed to Gimpie North train station (nice name I know). We boarded the train to Rockhampton after saying goodbye to Mike and the bad ass truck.

That night the original plan was to sleep under the stars in swags. It was ridiculously cold and the weather meant that it wouldn't be the best plan so we went for plan B, an upgrade to a hostel which was lovely (compared to staying in swags with 10 of us sharing a toilet and shower!). After tea we headed down to the beach (seemed to be a habit) to see the stars. Britney pointed out the two indicator stars which took us to the southern cross, it became a thing for the rest of the trip!

After the stars it was time for bed.
