Week two, I have started to find my feet and I have gotten used to driving on the right side of the road. I am almost a person in the USA as I have an American bank account, now for my social security number and my drivers license and I will be a full person here!
Last Sunday was the opening of the season here, Lucie and I went off to National Harbor to see some fireworks and go on the gigantic Ferris Wheel but it was unsuccessful to say the least. We decided it was way too cold to take the ferry across the river, little did we know that it was heated inside, we took an Uber to National Harbor and got stuck in crazy traffic, so we ended up seeing the beautiful firework display from the window. The Ferris Wheel costs $15 per person for one ride and that definitely wasn't in our budget so instead we got some Subway, bought a ticket for the ferry back to Alexandria, froze our butts off and walked around National Harbor which was actually really cute and Christmassy (my mother and aunt would have lost their marbles with all the
festive feels over there).
The week was crazy, driving both boys to and from school, cub scouts and therapy! Boys were at each others' throats all week, good thing I have learned how valuable a 'time out' is and if that doesn't work I have them vacuuming and scrubbing plates as punishment which is an added bonus for me as it makes my workload less.
The weekend was eventful as usual. Friday night we (Claudi, Ritana, Lucie) decided it was time to go jolling (partying/dancing), we went to an area called Clarendon in Arlington. The girls decided that it was a good idea to wear heels out and walk from Lucies place which was a couple blocks away, firstly I don't do heels and secondly I was a bottle of champagne in, needless to say I lost balance and fell onto the pavement not even 5 minutes into our walk as my ankles were screaming "too high, too high, go get your sneakers" Lucie and I ended up trading shoes in the middle of no where as hers were slightly lower. We told each other that 1am was curfew as we had an early start the next morning. Well... our
1ammer turnerd into a 3:30ammer, sitting at a random bus stop eating pizza and having too many silly regrets.
Saturday we are up at 7:30am despite the late night and we were out the house by 8:20am to go help Vicky (mine and Lucies area director) move houses. We scored some Starbucks from our kind deeds. Lifting heavy boxes up some stairs all day, 3 hours of sleep and a slight hangover definitely don't work well together! We still managed to find the fun in it and started playing with the loading trolley on the sidewalk as a 5-year-old would. Come Saturday night, Ritana and I were lights out before 9.
Sunday, my first Au Pair cluster meeting which was held at Clay Café. We could pick any ornament to paint, ranging from animals, mugs to Christmas decoration and I'm sure anyone could guess the animal I chose to paint, it was my spirit animal- the unicorn! I painted it so that it was super magical and majestic. Lucie decided to do museum courses as part of her credits, so we decided to join her at the Holocaust museum, it was interestingly depressing. I cannot get enough of DC, we went
into Chinatown for dinner last night and there is just something about this place that keeps my wanderlust spirit at a high.
Winter is definitely on its way, last night was -2 degrees Celsius and I am starting to think a shopping spree for warmer clothing is in order. I am leaving for Boston on Wednesday morning so I can't wait to share stories about my first Thanksgiving.
All my love and magical blessings
