Patagonia. Torres del PainePronounced: Towers of Pi-nay.
We leave slightly earlier to day to get to the airport as the fog is so thick that the police have closed the roads. Our driver decides to take the bone shaking unsealed road, which fortunately gets us there with an hour to spare.Flight lands 2 hour later in Punta Arenas where we are met by our driver and guide, Sarah and embark on our 5 hour road trip to the ecocamp. The scenery has changed again and is reasonably flat and dry. We can see the Magellan strait in the distance. We stop along the way for lunch and then head off again and the snow capped Andes begin to appear in the distance. We arrive at Torres del Paine National Park around 6.30 pm to the Ecocamp where we are shown around and how to use the toilet composting chamber (don't ask) we then meet up again with Sarah who is originally from Illinois but has lived here 5 years. We share a plate of local olives, cheeses, pickles and meats as well as the traditional
pisco sour. Dinner soon follows around 8.30 which consists of a pretty good 3 course meal. This is soon followed by the first night in our cosy hobbit like dome. The rainis coming down quite heavy and this soon sends me to sleep. I wake only once a tad warm but again drift off.
