Glass blowing scientific instruments (and glass art) is this town's modern claim to fame. We had a demonstration on board last night, very interesting. They start with Pyrex tubes of various diameters and 1.5m standard length.

Wertheim surrendered to the Americans in Apr 45, an act that saved the town from bombardment and destruction. No doubt the fate of Wurzburg in the night bombing raid two weeks earlier was a major factor. Apparently Wertheim's Nazi mayor wanted to fight, but he was overruled.

The second-largest castle ruins in Germany. The original square tower was completed in 1138, with many additions by succeeding rulers.

Yes, that tower is leaning. They stopped work (top of the brickwork) in the 12th© because of the lean. In the 14th© the engineers figured out how to fix it so the octagonal part was added, and it leans slightly in the opposite direction. Still going strong 700 years later - clever fellows those engineers!

All the deck superstructure was lowered to fit under the low bridges. Even the wheelhouse.
