Why Switzerland? This land locked fiercely independent country surrounded by Germany, Austria, France and Italy offers the best of all worlds not to mention a healthy dose of chocolate, cowbells and cable cars. We have visited this beautiful country several times; but never for two weeks staying in one spot and really, really absorbing the culture.

After a very long plane ride and a two hour bus trip from Zurick, we arrive in Kandersteg. A village that is so beautiful and quaint you feel like you are walking through a story book. Everything you expect from Switzerland and more. Rolling green hills, cows with bells, glacier rivers, beautiful mountains and swiss chalets. It was definitely worth the long trip! We arrived at our hotel, Alfa Soleil around noon. Lunch on the patio begins with an organically grown salad. Then Barley soup with creme. We met two of the three generations that have run this hotel for over 65 years. Everyone is so friendly.

Our room is very warm and comfortable with a balcony that winds around the hotel with stupendous views in every direction. We are tired...a nap should help.

Tonight before dinner we were served wine and cheese
on the patio while being entertained by Alpine horn players. Then many of us tried to blow those horns...not an easy task...group pictures followed.

After visiting with the musicians, we headed for the dining room. Our Welcome Dinner:
Cocktail of melon with rose of aircured ham from the Valley Cream of sweet corn soup " Granturco" Swiss chicken roast in the oven Geneva style and its tasty rosemary juice. Succulent, Peperonata vegetables with mixed wild rise. Country style gateau with raspberries "in a cup"Keep in mind that we havent slept since Monday night...We were falling asleep at the table. I have pictures and will figure out how to post them hopefully. I'm new at this, so be patient. Pictures and videos to follow. Before I fall asleep, I'll sign off for now.
