A day in Montevideo

We moored up at the port in the morning, so after breakfast we took the shuttle bus to Independence Square. On the way we were told that 6th January is 3 Kings day- a public holiday when kids get presents so every where would be closed- great! We saw the Presidential building in the square and various other buildings- not too exciting. Found an open art gallery of local artists which was good and we could see that if the city was open it would be a lovely place to walk around. As it was we had a quiet beer in a bar and walked back to the ship for lunch.

Sounds as though Buenos Aires was a better bet! It's always a bit of a bummer when you arrive somewhere on a public holiday - at least the bars were open.
