Liz kindly got up early to take me to Brixton to catch the tube to Heathrow. Traffic jam in Norwood road, traffic jam in. Brixton but she cleverly swooped into the church parking where she could turn round to head home and my walk to the tube was short. The usual hassle of being on a rush hour tube with a big bag, but it's more them going to work and me to Istanbul that gets the grim looks . So early at the gate terminal 5 for my 10.35 ba flight
.Liz tells me later norwood jam caused by tree falling on moving cars.
Those horrified by tales of 3 hour queues at heathrow immigration will be intrigued to know the wait here at istanbul was 5 minutes, plus 1minute wait in queue for visa, better known as a £10 tourist arrival tax.
Anyway, easy trip to hotel by metro and tram. Small friendly hotel near blue mosque, hippodrome (Septimus Sevirus again, he got around) where the receptionist instantly booked me bus ticket Istanbul to Ankara for Friday morning and I went to Istanbul station to swap my reservation for a proper ticket for Ankara to Erzurum train Friday night and most of Saturday.
Putting photos here is a long winded game, the memory card from the camera plugs into the card adapter which plugs into the usb adapter cable which plugs into usb host port on tablet. It's slow, but it's amazing it works at all. So two lousy photos, Sea of Marmara, in the dark, and Kemal Ataturk, bless, how horrified would he be to see how religion is impinging on what he set up as a secular state.
