We waited until 6.30am for the breakfast room to open, and we were the only desperate ones in there, everybody else was still asleep!! There was a choice of breads, croissants, muffins, cereals, cheeses, meats, yogurts and fruit, oh and plus coffee!!
We returned to our room, put on our warm jackets etc and what else do you do when it's too early to shop?? You catch the free transport and you go sightseeing at 7.15am!! As it was still kind of dark, we hopped off the bus and then caught the tram which apparently does a loop of the city, we went probably the wrong direction, we were meant to see the Old City, but our tram only went a few stops and then it was the end of the line, time to go back the other way!! On our way back, I asked a man standing on the tram if he spoke English, luckily he did, and he helped us with getting back to Geneva. We arrived back after our sightseeing, passing shops which were starting to open, so..... We went in, Nikki having a need to spend her money!! We went window shopping, looking at watches
and anything else, only because so many of the shops were closed, this time for a Bank Holiday. Back to our room to pack up, we have a train to catch to Lausanne, departing at 11.12am, arriving 11.48am. We found the right train, this was the start of our Eurail Pass so we needed to get our passes stamped from the office. The train ride was very smooth, we didn't have much of a view from the train as there was a fair bit of fog.The train was right on time, we were being met in Lausanne by Jean-Marc, Jules and Louis, and we found them easy. Once our bags were off, we went straight to our hotel, only 200 metres away but up a steep, cobblestone road, the boys took our bags up and was a struggle for all of them! We checked into our room, and then we all went to find something for lunch. Again, it was all uphill, and past so many shops that were closed due to the public holiday. At almost the top of the hill, we had a great view of the town of Lausanne. A bit further, we arrived at a quaint
restaurant which served Cheese Fondue. Our food was ordered for us, and Nikki had Spaghetti Bolognese ( a child's serve!!) we had 2 types of fondue, one served over a heated flame and the other was in a bread cob. After lunch, we went a little bit further to the Lausanne Cathedral. The building was started in 1170 but not completed until 1275. There is so much history in this church, it was amazing. We did our own tour and we climbed to the top, poor Louis was afraid of heights but he still did it!! We then went down the hill and onto the tram which took us to Ouchy, down by Lake Geneva. We walked towards the lake, a very popular area, seeing it was a holiday, there was lots of families out enjoying themselves. We walked along the waters edge, with the sun starting to set with a spectacular cloud formation. About 500m away, we went into the Olympic Museum, which houses permanent and temporary exhibits relating to sport and the Olympic movement. It is the largest archive of the Olympic Games in the world. We were going to stop for a coffee, but we decided to
walk back and had a coffee near the tram. Back on the tram, we arrived at our station, and Jean-Marc left us as he was catching a train back to his home, he had an early start for his work the next day, as he was going to the northern part of Italy for his work. Jules and Louis came back to the hotel, as they needed to pick up their bag. We said farewell to the boys, and after all the walking we had done during the day, we had a quiet drink and put our feet up!! Time for dinner which meant possibly up the hill again, but we went downhill about 50m and found an Iranian Kebab shop and we thought, "that will do!" And it was very nice. Well, we didn't do much after our meals so it was a relatively early night.
