Roma Day 1

I expected to sleep in until midday as I felt quite delirious when I arrived last night. However no, was up, eaten breakfast and out the door by 9.00am. You should see the bags under my eyes.

First stop was the Trevi Fountain, only about 500m from my room. So for those who don't know, I visited Italy in 2000 with Grandma (yay!), Aunty Ann (yay!) and my then husband (not so much yay!). Soon as I saw it the tears started. Spent a bit of time thinking about all of that then back on the trail. Visited the apartment we stayed at and moved on (literally and emotionally 😊).

Excuse me my pasta has arrived. Back in a bit...

Visited the usual highlights: Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, Campo de Fiore (my fav), Pantheon, etc, etc. Easy to walk everywhere although exhausting.

A nice man gave me three red roses. I was so flattered. Then wanted to take my photo. I had heard they run with your camera so declined. He then wanted money so I gave him his roses back. So disappointing. I thought there was potential there. 😞

Lunch at Campo de Fiore. Thought I was ordering bruschetta, slice of pizza and vino for 10 euro. Ended up with a whole pizza so looked like a big fat pig.

So today is nearly over and I am exhausted. Another big one tomorrow with an early start. Tour of the Vatican. Hope they let me in.

I am amazed at the architecture of yesteryear! These guys were geniuses. One can only stand in awe........... Design is one thing then of course the guys who put it all together.............
