Day 8 - The Red Centre - Alice Springs

Hello again, today is the first day in Alice Springs. We woke up to a beautiful sunny morning and had a lazy start. By 9.30am we had finished breakfast and headed off to our first touristy destination. We visited the Alice Springs Desert Park. This is an Australian native zoo. We arrived at about 10.30am and had time to see the dingo enclosure (mind you the dingos did not want to see us). At 11am we joined an Aboriginal presentation on survival in the desert with information on desert food, implements and fire starting with wood and kangaroo poo. At the end of this Xavier was so impressed he wanted a photo with the presenter. Not sure who had the darkest tan.

We headed off to the Nocturnal enclosure, Lisa was so impressed with the snakes. It was interesting to see night animals active as the enclosure was darkened to replicate night time. We had lunch at the park. Not impressed with the food but the souvenir shop kept us interested. On leaving this we went to the Alice Springs Telegraph Station which is a historical site of old buildings and artefacts. The best part of this was the icecream at the end. Off home to rest although the grandchildren immediately jumped into the Big 4 Camp Pool and slide. They had been complaining about not swimming on the this 29degree day since lunchtime. Now they are happy.
