Hello. This is our 5
thand final Sea Day between Salvador and Barbados. Tomorrow we start a string of days where we will go island hopping, so this is our final rest period for a while. We slept in until almost 9:00 and by the time we went to breakfast it was 10:00. We had such a lazy/restful morning that Janet didn’t even get to her knitting meeting today.
We went back to the cabin and our steward had not gotten to our cabin yet. We had decided to stay in the room and watch the movie “Sully” at 11:15, so we gave Renaldo the day off. We told him everything was fine and he could straighten up when we went to dinner tonight. Anyway, we watched the movie and it was interesting.
We went up to the Pizzeria about 1:00 and got a couple of slices of Pepperoni Pizza. The weather today was great and the outer deck was really crowded, so we had to take our pizza inside to the rear tables of the Horizon Court. Janet did not eat her crust and remembered that Melody likes it with peanut butter, but she just left her crust on the plate. Back at home we missed the St Angela Seniors Luncheon today. They probably had some kind of St Patrick’s lunch, but maybe the ship will do something when it really becomes that day.
After lunch Janet went to see a movie in the theater – “Moonlight”. She said it wouldn’t be David’s cup of tea, and afterwards she was not very impressed with the movie either. He went to the pool to swim for a little while and then soaked up a few rays of sunshine. The temperature only got up to 82 today, so the pool was area was very popular. After a while they started a series of 4-on-4 water volleyball games, but David just watched and had some ice cream.
Back in the cabin he finished the 3
rd book he had brought along. The ship’s library has a section called “book exchange” where you turn in a book and get something else in return. So he still has something to read for the remainder of the trip. Then Janet got back from her movie, having taken a detour through the coffee stand. Happily she could get the door unlocked today. Janet is on about her 6
th copy of the cruise card because somehow she keeps demagnetizing her card. Anyway, we continued resting for the remainder of the afternoon.
About 5:00 we each had a glass of wine in our cabin. Actually we finished our last bottle of Chilean Chardonnay and our bottle Red Malbec from Patagonia. We still have one bottle of Uruguayan Chardonnay in our refrigerator, so we will be fine. We are still in the cabin this evening because the Club Fusion Hors d’Oeuvres is still closed today as some other people are attending the Captain’s Reception tonight. One thing they told us last night is that Princess is building a total of 5 of their largest ships (like the Royal we took last year), and then there is a secret project being developed for about 3 years from now which may be much bigger. How big could that be?
We went to dinner at 5:45. All six of us were present today, although Don had been sick yesterday and missed dining with us. But he was back today. Janet had the shrimp cocktail and prime rib. David had sour-apple chilled soup, Caesar salad, and prime rib. Janet had ice cream with chocolate syrup and David had Black Forest Cake.
The performer in the Princess Theater tonight was the same singer we saw a couple of days ago. He had been “ok” at best and we didn’t feel like going for another show. The movie on the deck is Ben Hur 2016. It’s hard to believe a remake of that could be even partly as good as the original, but maybe David will go see it. Janet started to watch “Dr Strange”, but it was too strange so she watched other things instead.
This evening the ship’s clock will be adjusted one hour backward, so we will get an extra hour’s sleep before our excursion tomorrow. This is essentially correcting for 2 time zones to the left but one Daylight Savings to the right. The net is we will be back on Florida DST without having to make multiple adjustments the last few days. With that, we wrap up a pretty restful day and the end of our longest portion of sea cruising.
