Cernobbio
View from the boat dock area looking toward the city. We added text and photos to Venezia.
Sorry we didn't check in during the Como days. The Internet spots were in Como; we were 15 minutes away by boat, so didn't make the time to blog. The photos hardly do justice to the beauty of Lago di Como. The mountains just pop up out of the water; little villages built into the hillsides. The best transportation seems to be by boat - certainly the most enjoyable. It's low season now, so there are very few tourists in Cernobbio. We love the slowness of the area. We called the "dock boy" Ricco Suavé because he was so full of himself. He worked about 10 minutes of every hour and disappeared until 5 minutes before the next boat.
It took about a little over an hour by the fast boat to reach Belagio. (This is one huge lake.) George Clooney stood us up for lunch, so we dined at a quaint little restaurantè without him. Guess he was in Rome that day. His loss. No digitial photos because we forgot to charge the battery the night before. Sorry. We'll add photos from Pat's film camera after we get home. It was
Hotel Regina Olga
Our home on the lake. equally as serene as Cernobbio; just a few more tourists. Can't imagine what it must be like during high season.
Como was setting up for the Gyro di Lombardia - a bike race around the lake. It's a huge deal - maybe the northern Italian version of the Tour de France. We decided not to do it because it started in Switzerland. Too much hassle at the border. Anyway, streets would be closed Saturday (10/14) morning. Fortunately, we got to the train station before they were closed. Phew - another train not missed.
X-Ray Pat had to visit the museum of Allesandro Volta. Not wanting to be bored stupid, I decided to wait for him outside in a small park by the lake. This old man (like 80) started talking to me. I told him "Io non parlare Italino" but it didn't matter. As he sat next to me talking about who knows what, he kept getting closer. Pretty soon the roaming hands started and a kiss on the cheek. Arrevederci chump. Now I know why women should not be alone in Italy. Jenny, how did you do it?
