We arrived in Matanzas about lunchtime and unloaded ar the plaza de la libertad. We met up with our families and walked to our Casas particulares. Our casa was Hostal azul which we learned is #1 in the lonely Planet guide. They were wonderful people, Joel and Ailyn, and son Juan. Pat an I took one room and Markos and Joan in the other. In addition, several other choir members came to our casa for meals.
We had a walking tour in the afternoon to an art gallery and handmade book bindery. Saw a Che mural.
In the evening we met to rehearse and couldn't find a venue. It was unclear if the period of mourning was over or not. So we ended having another secret rehearsal, this time in Fred's casa. It was a bit cramped and hot but we survived somehow. We then returned to the Hostal azul for a good dinner from soup to flan.
