Seattle Peace Chorus friendship tour to Cuba 2016

Our director, Fred West, shared these thoughts last night at rehearsal about the purpose of our Cuba trip:

We are on a musical friendship tour. We are bringing musical supplies and seeking to build friendships with our singing counterparts in Cuba by visiting local choirs in several cities, as well as the Cuban National Choir. We also will endeavor to learn more about the Cuban people, their history, their hopes and struggles and their vision for the future especially regarding relations with the U.S. We are there to learn from the unique rich Cuban traditions of dance and Music. We hope to explore future opportunities of reciprocal friendship from our visit.

We go in the spirit of President Obama's declaration that we citizens of the United States extend a hand of friendship to the Cuban people. We see ourselves as singing ambassadors engaged in people to people diplomacy through a shared love of the singing tradition.
