There were flyers in every bike basket here.
The Pedestrian Mall and Hunan Road

After the experience in the fabric store, the Bububu, we walked out past a lot of bikes. Someone had put flyers in all the bike baskets—you know, like the flyers people put on our windshields at home. We walked around the corner and down the street. Hunan Road has big signs, WELCOME TO HUNAN ROAD. All the signs and lights and color make the area very exciting. We walked for a little while, then turned on the pedestrian road. It’s a shopping area with no cars. Each end of the street has a carved arch with stylized lions and other figures. There were bronze statues at the beginning, like the statues in Decatur, GA and downtown Atlanta. These are life size models of old time street vendors. One is blowing sugar sculptures. They are wonderful. I wish they had benches nearby, because I wanted to just sit and look at the sculptures.

We did some window shopping and then found the Indian restaurant we were hunting. We had a wonderful meal again. Later we walked around to find our bus stop, and I had a good time looking at all the sights. There

All these bikes got flyers.
was one very busy intersection with an underground sidewalk to keep pedestrians off the street. The street signs in popular areas like this are in Pinyin as well as pictographs. (I can read them!)

More later after this weekend. The Foreign Affairs office of the University is taking us on a field trip to the country. We will be looking at cows and fishing and walking up a mountain. It sounds wonderful to me. I hope I hear birds and smell fresh air. I really miss the morning bird songs. Last month I heard lots of cicadas on the campus, but they are gone now.

Here's a water fountain that dances to music. The water is only an inch deep. The kids love it. It's like Centennial Park

Pedestrians go under this intersection because it's too busy. It was a clean, lighted maze of sidewalks.

The statues of old-time workers are great! And the square of flowers around them are so attractive! What a fun place to wander and relax. Yes, benches would be good. I wonder why there are none since the photos indicate an atmosphere conducive to them... Love, Gailey
