Merry Christmas everyone. It is difficult to get into the spirit here with 95 degree temperature, Palm trees and sand. The Panamanians seem to be into it, with Christmas lights, decorated trees and really crowded shopping areas.

We revisited Puerto Armuelles this past week. This is the beach town on the Pacific side that we visited in the rain earlier, I wanted to see it on a sunny day. We were able to walk the beach which is a course dark sand. It was totally deserted except for a hand full of swimmers. The water is quite warm and the sand is too hot to walk on without shoes but it is still very pleasant to stroll along the ocean. There were nicer dwellings at this end of town. We are looking for next year's rental but this town will not be it. There is not enough to do there compared to David, it is a rather small town and two hours away from David. There is a small community of white Gringos but we are still thinking Bocas Del Toro on the Caribbean side would be a better choice. We are also looking at Belize with cooler weather and an English speaking population. Who knows what next year will bring.

We joined the Gringos for a pool party at the complex adjacent to ours this past Friday. Lots of good food, nice folks and some swimming. We exchange information about rentals, things to do, best places to get what one needs. It is a fairly old crowd compared to the local populace full of young families. There are quite a number of single widows and widowers. Our hostess, who is single, was surprised that we don't speak the language and off we go travelling all over. She said a lot of the new residents come here and stay locked up in their condos with the a/c on and never venture outside. We noticed some if the old girls who have been here a while do the same. I guess it is the affordable cost of living that is the attraction not the scenery.

We will be getting together with our Gringo friends for Christmas dinner at Hotel David. It is supposed to be a repeat of the Thanksgiving dinner we had there, which was excellent. Tomorrow we are off to an other beach called La Barquetta so more on that in my next blog.

Feliz Navidad everyone.
