So maybe my active imagination about the hotel was unfounded... In my defence Don was creeped out as well. We did survive the night without incidents however.

We did wake to the news that Debbie had to go to the hospital. Her face was swollen almost beyond recognition and her eyes were tiny little slits. We waited nervously for news. The doctor gave her IV cortisone and antihistamines. (Donny couldn't get over the fact it all costs 9.80 EUR!)

They would be no riding (or hills) for her today! We weren't sure if she was secretly happy about that or not! We left her to sleep for a few hours and let the medication take effect.

After a bit of late start we began what was to be a LONG day. The ride today was spectacular scenery, we rode along a beautiful river with chateau's looming overhead. We felt bad that Debbie was missing out on the riding and the views.

Rolande was having quite a time with her clip in peddles. We made a few sudden stops and she couldn't get out of her clips fast enough. Needless to say she got up close and personal with the pavement a few times throughout the day.

We rode into an amazing medieval walled city. We picked up some bread and cheese and olives for a picnic later. We just keep thinking that things can't get more beautiful - but they do!

Umi went back to get Debbie (who was doing much better) and we rode to yet one more Chateau and had a picnic lunch before headed out for a long ride for the final push in the afternoon.

So a few weeks ago I didn't know what a "peloton" was never mind doing it but we spent the next 20k or so in one. (Peloton for those that don't know is when you ride in a very tight - 1 to 2 feet apart group) Kevin started out in the lead and for over 10k we were doing a pretty quick pace of 27-28k average. We were pretty happy when Tom took the lead and slowed it to 23-24k pace and we looked almost professional for a while! A side note to this - we don't see much on this type of riding... It's business time only!! There was a big 6k climb and we were spread out pretty well by the end. Tom of course did it twice, as he does with all the hills.
