A Rest Stop On Life's Journey
The day I left for Central Asia... Yes, really.
I have been making promises for a long time, years, really - yes, years - to family, friends and travelers I meet along the way to start up my blog again. No one ever really knows where I am at any given time; it seems when I get a chance to finally post on Facebook, I'm three countries away. I am still on the same journey on which I started out in October, 2006, and with careful day to day budgeting, I have managed to continue surviving and thriving, living and learning, while tailoring my lifestyle to constantly being on the move.
So here I am after months and months, years and years of empty promises, starting a new chapter in this life on the road. I appreciate commentary, feedback and questions but please keep in mind I have limited time and despite my penchant for long ramblings, I may have to make my answers short.
BUT...keep in mind, this much-overdue blog is
not going to start with today and what I am currently up to. I have a few blogs/excerpts I would love to share with y'all and will post them, backdating them as I see appropriate. So we are all on the same page, they will start in India at the beginning of September, 2011, although I had already published a few stories from after that time period, from late September and into October (crossing into the lovely Nepal), the same year. Subsequently, to catch up as quickly as I am able, I will make other stories shorter (I say that now....) and try to condense wherever possible.
It seems fitting, while currently enjoying the mountainous country of Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia, that I start up my blog once again, beginning with travel adventures from long ago, namely from the mountains of northern India.
Although I would love to incorporate them into this blog site, maps of all sorts will have to wait, as I am dealing with slow internet at the moment. In the meantime, if you have absolutely no idea where I am, and actually care to know, you can always head to Google or a search engine of your choice.
For all of you who used to be on my email blast list, you will receive a message inviting you to join this blog site. I would rather, starting right now, only have to write in this blog, not both the blog and in emails. Somehow that just seemed inefficient, and contrary to what some of you may think, I don't have all the time in the world. One of the reasons why I stopped writing is I found it extremely difficult just to catch up. In fact, these days I spend most of my life playing "catch up." When you are one, only one, traveling solo against the world, there is an amazing amount of stuff to do on a daily basis. I must do all my own research, planning, figuring out how to get from A to B, where to stay, learn to communicate in a local language (which surprisingly changes quite often the more one moves around :-) ), and since I am a budget backpacker, this means in addition to the aforementioned, I must figure out how to do all this without blowing my budget. I often cook my own meals, which means daily market runs, hauling everything back to my hostel or guesthouse (more often than not, on foot), doing all the prep work, cooking, eating and finally cleaning up. Every day. Also, there is (sometimes daily) writing/journaling, there are always photos to edit and label (and yes, I am forever catching up on photo editing...) and hey, let's not forget time spent actually seeing/doing/being so as to give my followers some interesting stories to read. Oh, yeah, and then there is the social aspect to staying in hostels. But, that's for another day.
So, I do hope you all forgive me for my four year hiatus, and for those living in my former hometown, for rarely getting a chance to see you when I am back in Cali. This has absolutely nothing to do with you, just my crazed self trying to keep up with my life.
So, with that, I welcome you to my blog site. Please make sure to sign up to receive future updates and feel free at any time to peruse through past stories, and comment below.
All the best, always,
Suzi
