What a great day today! We went to see a covered bridge in Bennington and later went to see Bennington College. We then hit the road towards Weston, Vermont to visit The Vermont Country Store. We have ordered from them and are familiar with their products since we lived in NY. It was as quaint as I imagined it would be! The photos will show how cute it is outside.. but inside, it's literally like being a kid in a candy shop! There are lots of samples of their candy as well as cheeses, jams, mustards, etc. We met Nate who works at the store and is such a friendly guy … a native from Vermont. He was so helpful and friendly… he just made our visit even more special.

We ate lunch next door at The Brayant House. The food was fresh and DELICIOUS! The inside was cozy and where else but Vermont does a restaurant have their windows open to get the fresh air in? Next door, there is Mildred's Dairy Shop. Nate gave us wooden coins for a free ice cream cone at Mildred's. We had the best maple ice cream. I've never had maple ice cream, but Vermont is the place to be if you're going to try it. The ice cream came with a small crispy maple cookie on top. They sold these cookies in large tins inside The Vermont Country Store… so I ran back in to get a tin. I knew if I didn't, we'd regret it later! It was hard to leave… we enjoyed a great day there and hope to come back some day.

Onto our journey towards Lake Placid. The roads in Vermont are well maintained and easy to follow. The scenery makes for a pleasant drive. For awhile, I didn't have anyone in front of our car or behind us. We followed our handy GPS (Nigel with a British accent). To our surprise, Nigel lead us to a ferry to get to New York. There was no way around it… to get to NY we needed to get on that car ferry! It turned out to be a pleasant surprise and only took us 10 minutes to get to NY.

We decided to go back to White Face Mountain first since it was on our way to Lake Placid. The last time we were there was 5 years ago. Not much has changed and that was ok. The gondola ride up the high mountain and the views once there are breathtaking.

We finally made it to our final destination of the day.. Lake Placid around 5 p.m. We set up out things and went to find some food. It felt chilly… 71!
