The Three Amigos
Andrew (Australia), Luzia (Ottawa) & Lynda (Kingston) The "Three Amigos" (Andrew, Luzia and I) left Burgos at 9:30 a.m. after a nice breakfast saying goodbye to folks who we had travelled with but we're ending in Burgos for various reasons (i.e., they had done part of the Camino before, had run out of time, etc). Luckily we were already at the top of the city and didn't have to walk too far to get out of it.
The walk today, for the most part, was relatively light (only 16 km), as we were told that Tardajos was a nice stop. We came upon a private hostel, La Fabrica, as we entered Tardajos and decided to check it out. What a gem it turned out to be! The owners and their 2 young sons are absolutely lovely people - very hardworking and accommodating.
I helped the boys pick cherries from the awesome tree in the courtyard and had a nice chat with them. Their English is very good and they ere incredibly polite. We enjoyed a fantastic Pilgrim's lunch (3 courses) and then walked into town. There actually isn't a whole lot in Tardajos, but La Fabrica is certainly worth the stay. We had a 2 person
room with a fantastic private bath for 15 euros. We met up with Tee Tee from Sweden and made plans to walk with her the next day.
One of the nice things with a private hostel such as this one (besides the fact that it is comfortable) is that there are often no curfews and you can get up when you please. The albergues usually have a 10 pm curfew and they want you out by 8 am so that they can start cleaning for the next group to come in.
